"replace existing MIDI clips..." in loop mode

I can't get "replace existing clips" and "overlay with new clips" to work in loop mode. Each pass continues to merge data with each of the previous passes, ignoring the setting (which work fine in punch mode). Am I missing something??

Wow... that's painfully disappointing! Did T1 have this function, or was it just added for T2? I came aboard at T2 and have so far used it mostly for audio. But in previous DAWs loop replace recording has always been a pretty fundamental MIDI technique to me - keep playing till you get it right (or keep jamming out new variations), then hit stop.

Any suggestions for a work around, besides manually looping clips someplace other than the composition you're working on?

And... any idea how high is this in the bug-fix queue? Again, I searched, but as far as I could tell most people seem to be asking for the "stacked clip" function audio has.

Off the top of my head, try this: create 2 blank tracks and route them both to another track with whichever VSTi you're playing. Now, every time you have a "keeper" take, use the <cntrl> arrow keys to nudge it to the other track before recording a fresh clip. If the other track is muted you can build up a collection of alternate takes, while leaving the other track open will allow you to over-dub new clips over the ones you just recorded, while keeping them all seperate. Only downside is you will have to stop between each pass..

Thanks for the above suggestion IIRs. I went on working, but saw this in the 2.0.2.8 version thread:

• Fixed issue with “overlay new clips containing newly recorded midi” mode of MIDI recording.

Unfortunately, it seems to still behave exactly as I described above in loop mode, regardless of setting. No new clips are created, and previous notes are left in the new clip. New notes are merged with the existing clip.

Can anyone explain what is the fix referring to?

The fix refered to a bug that occured not in loop mode. The loop mode operation you desire is on our list and should get added in a future update.
