I own AT1, GTRig1, Waves GTR, the Simuanalog stuff and a POD XT. But none of them give me an appropriate sense of realism when used with high gain settings (think Tool, NIN, Opeth). Arguably AT1 is the closest though. It's got good bottom. Hoping AT2 has the magic I'm talking bout. I'm working on an album right now and I would love it if the the AT2 release fell into the time frame before production wraps on this record. I know you're still in the Wilma mess, and I empathize, but business carries on, no? Thanks- EV
Hi EV, first let me start by saying welcome to KVR..:)

Please don't take offense at this, but if you are using all that you mention and still can't get the realism you are looking for in high gain I truly wonder if you're being a little to critical.

Or perhaps it's time to take a good look at you guitars. What do you play for guitars? What are your pick-up configurations? Have considered or are you already using active electronics in your guitar. If you are not perhaps you might wanna think about that avenue...

Thank you for the Welcome Hink. Longtime watcher.

I take no offense. As far as guitars, we're quite spoiled. Genuine 58 LP, A '98 LP Standard, multiple PRS's (including the newish hollowbody) strats and a tele. All have custom modded pickups, both active and passive. They're all quite flexible. I'm not the guitarist, I'm the producer/engineer.

We get great results when recording real amps through real heads and cabinets. But it takes alot of setup time and experimentation. Not to mention the expense of renting an appropriate recording space with the right gear (mostly good mics and pre's). I live in NYC so it's not like I can just throw up an 8x10 and 4x12 in my living room. Neighbors would have my head. So yes, I realize I'm asking alot. I've bought all this modeling stuff in hopes of not having to go through the immense hassle.

Each of these products have cost me about the same as a day of recording in an acceptable studio, so the expense is reasonable.

So for everything up to a heavy crunch I am confident in using the modeling. I love the modelers for leads too. I'm just hoping AT2 can just save me some time and money when doing heavy rhythm guitar. I'd go so far as to say I would be utterly enthralled if it did. :D -EV

So, why should software look like one? Give me a nicely designed, efficient interface called "drive amp" and there we go.
Greenmachine comes to mind!

Word! I loves me some GMA2. Wish there was a more liquid 'clean-to-slightly-overdriven' sound available within, but it's a kick-ass amp sim anyhow.

Whoa!

Anyone remembers the Line6 annouced product called "TonePort"?

Well, it was due for Winter 2006, but, it was officially out last friday!

Maybe IKMM should learn from these guys, and actually ship products before due date :)

Btw, the reviews on the preamp emulation of the tonePoart ( neve, API, Avalon ) seem to indicate that they sound at least as good as the real thing!!!

At 199$ for 2 channels, and the thing acts as a sound card with inputs and such, it is a much better deal than most of the software only solutions outthere.

Use this link: http://www.line6.com/toneport/ and make sure you visit the "Movies" and "Sounds" sections!

Line 6 is a terrible example though. How late were they on Variax Workbench?!
And they almost never communicate delays, just leave people wondering...

Aural Chaos, shhhhhhhhh mate!

I am trying to put some pressure on IKMM, don't sabotage my attempt in a single reply! LOL!

Just got a toneport...the toneport sounds great, no latency and great noise reduction...what's not to like?

Well, you can't use more than one stomp model at a time and I guess if I wanted to use the line6edit software I could rearrange the wah/mod/stomp order but that's a big hassle.

So the ease of use and features of AT2 really appeal to me...and the vocal/amp models of the toneport along with the practically zero latency make me want to use them together.

The cost of both together isn't cheap but ain't gonna break the bank either...

Post

interristing, so you want to use both TonePort and AT2? In which config?

How would you compare the pre-amps ( vocal ) in Toneport to the real deal?

Post

I use primarily live 5 and tracktion for my hosts although I have protools le...

If toneport had the drag/drop (in order) and the ability to use more than one stomp/mod/reverb...I wouldn't even buy AT2...the amp/effect models are great.

Thing is I want to work fast so AT2 will let me order the effects and use whatever effect I want where I want so I should be able to get any tone I want. Lots of amps/effects ;-)

I don't really have any real-life experience with the vocal pre-amps...so I can't comment.

The latency on the toneport is nil and the noise is almost nil...

no latency? Are you sure you don't mean low latency or no perceivable latency?

OK, I wasn't being literal...

But yes, no perceivable latency...it's really nice...

HOWEVER...it does come with a price...not cpu load but the toneport wants 44% of my usb bus...which means it doesn't play nicely with my mbox2...

:hihi:
