I'm trying to help my technically inept keyboardest get the Receptor up and running. A couple of weeks ago it was fine. Now the LCD panel just says
"Muse Research Receptor
Initializing System...0"
And never does anything. I left it like that for three hours last night. Won't respond to any buttons. Could not find anything in the user manual.
Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

I had the EXACT same problem on day 3, after no problems for the first 2 days. The drive was not spinning. After many many reboot tries (With mon, mouse, keyboard) it finally booted again, but then hung up again and wouldn't boot an hour later (This was now 2am and I was pissed!). The next morning, it booted fine and it's been up for 3 days.
Rick asked me to take the back off and see if perhaps the hard-drive wasn't "seated" well. Said to check the ribbon AND the power connector. I did this but everything seemed connected just fine, and it hasn't happened again. It's making me pretty nervouse about using it live though I must say!

I went ahead and tried this, everything is hooked up just fine. This unit has been out of the house once, sat in the back seat of my Honda for the ride down, its been subjected to NO impacts or josteling around.Hybernation wrote:Rick asked me to take the back off and see if perhaps the hard-drive wasn't "seated" well. It's too bad I have a wasted weekend where I was going to figure this out. I guess Muse support is offline for the weekend. Seeing how their clientele is musicians and would critically need support evenings and weekends, I'm not sure this makes sense. I guess maybe if I was Jordan Rudess I could get help...He probably gets his units for free...

Oh, no doubt about that. Course he did have to put in a little time to make those videos!arf-man wrote:I guess maybe if I was Jordan Rudess I could get help...He probably gets his units for free...

Well, my keyboardest plays an old Hammond C3, and that's the school he's from. When we were looking at a keyboard to add so we could have some piano, strings, we were going to get a laptop and run Cubase. I talked my very best friend into getting the Receptor, and I've not lived it down yet. There are continous opportunities for this company to show that it really *is* a world class operation in terms of product and service, but they continuously disappoint. We sent back two units that just wouldn't power up in the beginning, the truth is they never checked them, they just sent back what we had sent. The power supply was just unplugged internally. This unit has been nothing but babied, and what is causing the current problem is really troubling.Kriminal wrote:its Muse, what did you expect?
I was hoping there was just a way to do a factory reset, but I can find nothing. I've been messing with this thing all day and it's just frustrating. Where are the companies that really care about their customers? And what this tells me that if we finally get this to where we can use it live and we have a problem at 7:00pm on Saturday night, we're just SOL...
Sad...very sad...
And why do I have to be a registered user to download the latest O/S? This is a piece of hardware!!!! Do they think that people are going to be building their own in their garage????

It appears I may have been hasty in my judgment...sometimes I'm glad to be wrong.

I just called Dan, 8:36pm on a Saturday night and he was available. Couldn't solve the problem, but that' because I don't have everything on my end I needed. So, I'm happy to report that they do care about us little folks...

I have a similar problem, my Receptor worked perfectly for two days, then on a reharsal it just quit, power off, and no sign of life for like 20 minutes. Then, suddenly, it was possible to start it again, and it worked perfectly for about a week...
Then I got my new Hard Drive from Muse and spent 12 hours programming sounds for two gigs on a boat. On the same day as the first gig, it started malfunctioning (spelling???) again, randomly turning itself off and beeing impossible to start again for maybe 10-15 minutes. I felt insecure if it would work, so I brought my Triton Rack as well as my Nord Electro and the Receptor. Soundcheck worked fine, no signs of problems, then after two songs in the first set it stopped again and wouldn´t boot for the rest of the set
There I was with my Triton again for two days on the Nordic Sea...
The unit seems totally powerless, the lamp that shines when you plug in the ethernet cable don´t shine and it is 100% dead for a while.
I first thought it was overheated, but it is not very warm, and the fans work until the whole unit goes down. I was very careful when I changed the drive, and all cords seem too be well connected into the drive. Also tried different power cables, but that is not it...
I bought my unit here in Sweden, and I don´t know if anyone here can repair it, so what to do?
EDIT: I tried again a couple of times and found out that the receptor can reboot faster if I remove the power cord for a minute or so after it has shut itself down. If I keep it in, it can take forever. This is the strangest thing...
Andreas.
P.S. The sounds were awesome though, my new Colossus library is wonderful and the Unit does evcerything I wanted it to, but that only makes it so much worse when it doesn´t work... If I get this thing to work, I might post a review of Colossus on Receptor later.

It does sound like the CPU overheating. Even if the entire unit doesn't seem hot, the processor might get too hot.
I don't know all the details. You should contact support, either by calling or by email. They can tell you how to check that the CPU makes the correct contact with the heat sink that is on top of the CPU.
