Hey

just updated my firepod's drivers and i can go pretty far down in latency.. like i had it at 8ms and now it can go probably 3.5 pretty nicely, cpu is even going down! i hope the BSOD's go away, i think they will now

any other firepod users? i remember one said not to upgrade to the newest because it didnt work, but its working even better now!

I had issues with the newest drivers on my Toshiba P4 laptop. I went back to the older drivers and all is well again. Perhaps it is more machine related rather than T2. Glad it is working well for you. 3.5ms is awesome. What kind of track count are you running? I usually track stuff reliably at 6ms. I usually mix stuff at whatever ??ms is needed to avoid rendering each track/vst instance until I am sure of what I need to do with everything mix-wise. 6ms isn't too bad for tracking usually. I'd like to hit 40+ stable tracks someday. Right now it seems like 20-25 range is the limit.
Peace.

Updated mine recently...I always had mine running on 6 ms latency which was always the "magic number" for me...couldn't hear it, and none of my projects ever crackled (and I work on huge projects). Tried to go down to 3 ms like you did, but I got crackle. I think this update is mainly for using two firepods at once as an aggregate device, and the addition of the standalone mixer mode is awesome.

How many tracks can you record at once with 3.5ms latency?

too good to be true wasn't it?

no upgrades for the firebox..which is fine, because I have mine at 3.9 ms and it has been fine.

I'm curious about this because I was working with friends computer with a cheap soundblaster and we were overdubbing one track over a single pre-recoeded track with no effects running and used 1.5ms.

I currently don't record on my system, I'm all vsti, but I am thinking of getting a propper soundcard to do some recording.

I am surprised that you are getting 6-8 ms on a good soundcard when I was getting 1.5 on a cheap soundblaster.
That is why I asked above how many tracks you were recording at once.

could I ask what is probably a dumb question.....with the firepod and Orion Plat.can you you rout each firepod input to an audio track in Orion,so say mic into 1. on firepod and that into Audio track 1 in the Orion mixer,so little lights on Audio Track 1 go up and down when you say 'test, checkpoint' into the microphone ??....etc for the 8 inputs ??

ron, I was the one getting problems. they haven't completely gone away, but I can do about fine just switching between 6ms and 8ms and back. Or the other way around.

anyway, firepod doesn't work that good with low latencies. maybe I should stick with the old driver.

I have contacted the tech support and they gave some possible solutions, I can forward you the mail tomorrow. I'm trying one thing at the time, so far no change. but it doesn't always crackle... huh.

support is good though. they told me to come back after testing their ideas and download the un-updater.

maybe I'll do that.

p.s.: friend's firepod has just passed away, not sure why. 4 months old.

fireface next?

Mine had to be un-updated as well. Like you said.....great tech support though. Can't beat it. I can get 6ms and that's not bad.
