Why does Tracktion do a full VST scan on starting?

I'm using Tracktion 1, and WHY does it do this? I have such a ridiculous number of plugins that it takes a good 10 minutes for the program is load. It's still loading as I'm typing this, and I forgot completely what musical ideas I had in mind.. I mean, come on.

Settings/plugins. Uncheck the "always check for new plugins on startup". And scan manually whenever you add new plugins.

Yet the question remains, WHY does T scan the plugs at startup?

My NFR version of T1.6 scans no matter what the setting is in Settings/Plugins. It's a reinstall, I don't remember it doing this before, but it definitely does now. It takes probably 2 minutes or more to start...not a big deal, but it seems it should obey the setting, no?

I don't know what to say, other than it's not a plug-in scan. Whatever your slow start-up time is caused by, it's not a plug-in scan.
I don't know why, but it will still quickly display a text along the lines of "searching for new plug-in filters" or something like that, regardless of setting, but you can be assured that it's obeying your setting.
FoxV: The question's moot-- there's a good reason for having a full plug-in scan, and it's set that way by default. Then you can choose to disable it. A better question for ME at least, is, why don't some other hosts ever scan plug-ins?

It does a full scan so it can detect whether you've added new plugs or removed some. Make sense?

It says "initialising" followed by "checking for new plug ins in C:\VST Plugins", during which it checks every sub-folder. BUT, I discovered that it apparently can be reset by ticking "always check for new plugins at startup" and then un-ticking it. Tracktion 1.6 now starts in approximately 10 seconds, although it still says "initialising" (expected) followed by "searching for plugins" (lasts for an instant). I think the "searching for" is just T loading the plugins.
Might just be a weird glitch, I don't know, but it works as advertised now.
Reverse Engineer, it shouldn't do a full scan unless that option's ticked. If I add new plugins, I manually scan, because I know I've done so and need to scan. Make sense?

And why does it fail to scan and crash during the process at leat once. Amplitube is the current plugin that seems to be the cause.

IK stuff is notorious. Lots of Sampletank problems to be had in all hosts, too.

Podium never does it unless you choose a quick startup.
IMHO, that's the best way.
Import plugins as you need them.
I don't use anything that does a full scan, but that's my preference.
EnergyXT does it right also, IMO.

Lunch's statement is my experience also. I hold my breath when loading ST2XL and the new 2.1.
Incidentally (sp?)--I've used Tracktion for some time now on I think three different systems. The scan time varied widely from 1.4,5,6 and 2.0, and from system to system. I have a good computer now and a reasonable number of plugs--the scan is maybe four seconds. In the past, it could be as long as a minute or more. PC, btw.
