Like the rest of you I have been saving some money for updating my system. It is the monitors that are my weak link, I built these speakers in 1971 after reading several books on speaker design. They are all right but not good enough for studio monitors.
So I have been looking at the KRK-RP-5 ROKIT powered monitors. Does any one have any experience with them or heard them? What is your opinion of them?
If I get them it is a 240 mile drive just to hear them in a set up like mine. And I believe that there are a lot of you out there with some good advice.

I have the RP-6's and am very happy with them. Its reasonable to assume the 5s and 6s would sounds similar.
I find them very 'up front' and clear: you can really hear into them and know where you are. They certainly sound pretty flat to my ears, but others may describe them as bright. There are not big on bass, but there is certainly enough to mix on without any problems (the 5s are probably a little weaker in the bass). For the clarity and definition they provide, and the great deal I got on them, I'd say they are a bargain. They are very well made too, and, what the hell, they look v-e-r-y cool!

I also only tried them in the shop, but I was A/Bing them with everything else the shop had on tap in that category (some sort of Yamahas, M-Audios, and Edirols) and they sounded 'the best' (ie. flattest, non-hyped, but yet clear) to me.

I've got about $300.00 to spend and I am heading out to Guitar Center in Saginaw. It is about 150 miles one way. So I will let you know what I get after I get home and install them.
I am going to take a cd project down with me to play through speakers. But from what I have read of the R5's in reviews by those that bought them are are very happy with them. Talk to you later tonight.

Personally i have the M:Audio Studiophile BX5's, though many fellow producers I know highly recommend the Rokit's.

I have had Rockit 5s for about a year now and I love em.. I can't believe they were only $300.00.
I bought them at Guitar Center and they have a room full of monitors to compare them too and for the money the KRKs were untouchable.

Well I am home after a long stop at Guitar Center and listening to all the different monitors. I came home with the Rocket 5's. Man what a great difference over what I was using. I am going to have to go back and do some remixing. I can hear things with these that were lost in the other speakers (the ones I made 34 years ago). I know, I should have known better, but you know how it is when you are strapped for cash and need something.
Thanks for all the advice, humor and why didn't one of you pick me up when I was hitchiking on I 75 N. Oh well it was a beautiful sunny day and the colors were beautiful in the full sundlight.

I also picked up a Alesis SR-16 Drum Machine and a couple of pedals. I figured while I was in the candy shop I might just as well bring home another box of candy.
