Sorry to say that in ACID 5 I seem to be getting all sorts of problems. I'm using the demo loop and I've set up a simple 4/4 loop using kick (on the beat) in one track and hi-hat (on the off-beat) in a second track. When I play it back using a midi track in ACID 5 I experience slices dropping out and at the end of the loop I'm getting a double hi-hat.
I then set up the same loop in just one track. It played back ok apart from a few slices dropping out.
Sometimes the snap to quantise funtion seems to switch off for no apparent reason. When I've set up the loop to 1/16 quantise it sometime reverts back to 1/32.
I'm also getting artifacts in the track image which adds to the confusion.
None of these problems occur regularly so I can't reproduce them consistantly to identify what is causing them.
I'm using the latest version of ACID 5 with the latest drivers for E-MU 0404. ASUS A7A mobo (latest bios), WinXP SP 2 (latest updates), Athlon 2400XP, 1GB ram, 2x 120GB Maxtor HD and ATi Radeon 9600XT videocard (latest drivers).

Hi there, I have just tested the test build (7z), but the graphics problem is still there. Maybe it's me but i think the scrolling response is better, but still "sticky" with some delay and jumpiness.ohm wrote:hmm. the radeon 9500 is a pretty good card... I find it hard to beleive it causes the problem. I have your email so I'll send you a test build when I have one.
The other aspects of LiveSlice are working well.

munchkin: You need to stop holding down CTRL all the time
Just click a slice in the slicer, and then click on the slice in the track you want to replace. Holding down CTRL is for inserting new events - not for replacing.
Drag'n'drop is on my list, but clicking is actually easier, might not be intuitive, but it's easier (especially if you use a laptop with a pad). I will implement it, don't worry, there's a pretty hight demand for it.

that's true. Undo is not there yet. There doesn't seem to be an undo button
Liveslice colors the waveform based on the frequency content of the audio file, so your basedrums are dark, snares greenish and hihats red / yellow for instance - this is much more advanced than acid / sonar that just uses one color for the whole waveform. It's not always pretty, but it's meant for making music not posters.Perhaps the colour scheme could be more like ACID or Sonar.

good idea, noted.I'd like each track I create to default to snap quantise.
slices don't change duration by themselves, they change duration if you change the D (decay) or Pitch parameters.I would like slices to stay fixed at their correct length unless I decide to adjust them (At the moment their length slides about like holding on to a wet fish.)
you mean copying tracks between arrangements? that is on my list.Is there a way of stacking tracks on different notes so that they can be viewed as a guide for building new tracks on new notes?

i don't know acid or sonar, but as you are one of the few thinking that way it's likely.munchkin wrote:I don't find it intuitive at all. I'm used to ACID 5 and Sonar 4 so maybe that's why.
sorry, but i didn't understand at all what you were trying. liveslice doesn't add any slices as long as you don't want that.munchkin wrote:I'm playing with the demo loop. I'm trying to build a new loop using slices in a new track but Liveslice adds slices to original demo track. This results in the loop in the demo track changing completely which is not what I'm trying to do. I want to preserve the demo track not add to it or change it. Why does it do this? Aaarrgh!
that's because there is no undo-function for nowmunchkin wrote:There doesn't seem to be an undo button for each track.
why do you have to press ctrl? just leftclick the slice and leftclick in a track in the arranger and the event is there.. are you sure you have the latest version?munchkin wrote:I would like to use drag and drop to create loops in tracks instead of having to press ctrl.
good idea and easy to implement for sure. i think ohm will add that to his todo-list.munchkin wrote:I'd like each track I create to default to snap quantise.
another thing i really don't get. events in the arranger have always the original length of the slice until you change the pitch.. can you describe more specific what you mean?munchkin wrote:I would like slices to stay fixed at their correct length unless I decide to adjust them (At the moment their length slides about like holding on to a wet fish.)
no, but you can use arrangements for that as they can be played with different notes.munchkin wrote:Is there a way of stacking tracks on different notes so that they can be viewed as a guide for building new tracks on new notes?
i received the screenshot but can't think of what's causing this.DarkStar wrote:Hi there, I have just tested the test build (7z), but the graphics problem is still there. Maybe it's me but i think the scrolling response is better, but still "sticky" with some delay and jumpiness.
afaik there are some 3rd-party drivers out there for radeon cards, perhaps you could check out if one of those helps. but i'm sure jacob will figure it out with your help sooner or later.
[edit]ups, ohm beat me to it.. anyway, the more answers the better..

Thanks for your replies.
I've got to grips with it a bit more now and your answers have helped. I'll try the demo for a few more days and see if I can learn how to use it better. I'm still not sure why ACID drops slices during playback.

What is the latency of your ASIO driver?I'm still not sure why ACID drops slices during playback.
On my development machine I run the omega drivers for my radeon 9600 - that might do it. There must be a bug in the drivers that come with windows, bacause I'm only using very basic 2D acceleration stuff that any card should be able to handle. There is the option of avoiding acceleration completely, but that will slow things down on other machines.there are some 3rd-party drivers out there for radeon cards
Btw. I've started a new thread on arranger workflow improvements here:

yes. If you can send me a mac it will be done much quicker, I promiseany chance of a mac version??
on a serious note though: a mac version has been planned all along and the code is 98% portable, so it will be there. Not within the first year though, as I have other projects needing my attention too.

Please keep the colors as you have them. I've already found this extremely handy in fine-tuning my slice markers. I would hate to lose this visual guide.ohm wrote: Liveslice colors the waveform based on the frequency content of the audio file, so your basedrums are dark, snares greenish and hihats red / yellow for instance - this is much more advanced than acid / sonar that just uses one color for the whole waveform. I really like the zoom implementation although of course I'd like to see the waveform get to be even bigger on the screen. I'm sure I'll live for the meantime though. Thanks for implementing it.
I do have a question about export of ACIDised loop though. How exactly is that working?
You hit the save button and it saves the slices with the wav file over the top of the original wav file?
I'm trying to work out what I'm expecting to see with this functionality. Apologies for being a bit daft.

ACIDised loop export saves the slice info in the original wave file.
I've implemented in a very safe way: it loads the original file, inserts the ACID info and saves it again. This way you won't loose any other info stored in the file, and if won't change the bit depth or sample rate or anything.
The downside is that the wave file has to be present on disk before you can save the info in the file - a bit of a prob. in some situations I know, but it can be changed. It just didn't seem too important at the time.

So does this mean that if I have WAVE1 loaded as source, I move my markers around etc... then hit SAVE, all those markers are saved in the original wave file.
Then later, if I decide to import WAVE1 again into LiveSlice, all the markers that I had put there originally will show up automatically?

yes. the little button below the browser can configure it to import slices & audio or just one of the two (so you can actually impose the slices of one loop onto another without loading the audio)

wow!!!!

did anyone also discover the ultra-cool scrolling when you have zoomed in in the slicer?
just hold down left mousebutton and move the mouse left or right.. that's awesome!!!

(the manual needs to be updated soon
