T2: hear midi while punching in?

I wonder if if this is a limitation of T2 or if I'm doing something wrong: When punching in on a MIDI track, I can't hear the lead-in, so when initially composing I only have the click as a guide.

I workaround this by setting my MIDI input on another track, route the output to the first track with the VST I'm playing, but I wonder if there's an easier way...
