I sincerely doubt that in 20 years anybody would do covers of meaningless, repetitivne, melody and substance deprived trance, techno, dnb or similar "quasy music".

Talk about intellectual snobbery when it comes to music.
So what exactly is "quasy music" ?
I listen to all sorts of music (have some 2000+ vinyl collection and some 1000+ CD's).
Lots of show tune albums , trad jazz , blues , modern jazz , 80's UK music (you name it I've got it from the Pixies too The Smiths too This Mortal Coil too Yazoo too DepcheMode , Human league , Ultravox ,Tears For Fears , John Foxx , Bauhaus etc etc...
I have tonnes of classical recordings , remastered 78's from the 30's and 40's and so on.
Your generalisation of techno/d'n'b and electronic genres in general is absolutely atrocious.
There's good and bad in any music style if you ask me and if you find D'n'B / Techno / House etc meaningless and and melody deprived you must be listening to some pretty shit electronica in general.
I've got plenty of old techno(detroit) , chicago house and early d'n'b albums that are very melodic.
The House material inparticular is downright funky and soulful with killer vocal deliveries and the like.
I wouldn't classify any of it as quasi music.
Goldies - Inner City Life for example is a D'n'B classic that is both melodic and timeless IMHO.
I could list a swag of great oldskool house tunes that will stand the test of time also and there are some truly classic techno albums out there also that aren't melody deprived or lacking in form , structure and compositional prowess.
Music falls in two categories good or bad for what it's worth and regardless of style or genre I can find a mix of both in any music I listen too.
It's a pitty you can't do the same.

davor: yes, you're right, this 'rock and roll' stuff is just an ephmeral trend, it's all noise and you can't hear the words.
FaX: Exactly. And notice that people keep on putting out remixes and updates of 10 year-old 'ardcore and 20 year-old techno tunes.

well I was thinking the other day maybe it only SEEMS like techno/dnb/ etc etc are outdating faster because they aren't as time honoured as Rock/Guitar based music (yet) so they have yet to develop a "classical" period or timelessness - though I agree with DwB that there are some early techno numbers that couild be called timeless...
I mean no-one would call Franz Ferdinand dated just because they basically do what the Kinks etc did 40 years earlier...

Maybe it's a wheat and chaff thing and it's all still too recent (we're talking about 20 years here as opposed to 50+)

I think a lot of people would, actually. Not necessarily in relation to what the Kinks did, but perhaps more likely in relation to what Gang of Four did slightly more recently...

There's good and bad and there's throwaway and timeless in every era and every genre of music. Who choose which is which and how and why old things get up-dated and new things dated is anyone's guess, but I would suspect that if you read up on the fashion industry you would find a similar repetitious circles generated by designers, producers, journalists and consumers. Each party plays their role in keeping the wheel turning. It's not that much different when you think about it...

Let me repeat. Many electronic instruments, including early synth devices are older than the electric guitar. Pop music is pop music. A cash cow, not art. It has now bearing on the history of music theory. Except for that it takes away from a persons ability to discuss real music. And yes i am dated. I have a woman. word.
