Dunno - The pop industry is overwhelmingly a male dominated industry right, especially the top 'decision making' & 'trend setting' positions?
Young girls, young lads - a lot of them are listening to music I personally consider crap (as in badly produced & unimaginative), s'pose a number of 'em will hopefully develop wider, more discerning & mature tastes as they get older (that is if the industry allows more 'unnerground' & 'niche' genres to survive).
Maybe I listened to a lot of 'crap' when I was younger, pretty sure I did, although I also reckon I liked a lot of classics, & by that I mean music that has stood the test of time (pop, or popular? what's ghost town by the specials, the earth dies screaming by UB40 - i'm trying to compare what I listened to at my daughters age).
How many future classics being created in the mainstream nowadays?
I'm not arguing one way or the other way really, I pay so little attention to 'pop', it's just background noise at work for me, mtv base etc. - the occasional catchy riff to hum along to.

Why is this I wonder?? Because little girls are easy to brainwash.. And I know younger boys that play on my street that like metal, trance, jungle and all the other stuff already. Why am I the only one here to realise this???????

Young girls are probably the biggest consumers of "image music": boy/girl bands...

But talking about women as artists is a different thing, probably.

About the definition of pop music: I think it's not just about pop bands, but about pop songs. Metallica can either make a pop or a metal song, for example. Some other groups can only make pop, tho.

Probably true. But that's presumably at least partly because it's what gets agressively target marketed at them.

Or in fact about the suggestion that 'women only like shit that someone else liked who got the idea from someone else that thought it was cool' or that 'they spend their time and energy wanting to look pretty. That is their art.' or any of the other offensively chauvinistic ideas that the post expressed in its offensively chauvinistic language.

I think AudioWhore has a point.

I remember some poll a few years ago here in Belgium. Girls tended to prefer r'n'b, boys preferred loud guitars. It wasn't only kids they polled either IIRC.

Think of aural infestations like "Careless Whisper" (George Michael)... girls can't get enough of it, esp. during puberty, it's a whole genre, a whole industry geared at girls.

Sorry to have reminded you all of "Careless Whisper" now :muhahhaha:
