I'm still shopping a new I/O device, and recently Line6 has release the toneport UX2, bundled with a special Line6 version of Ableton Live Lite.
Question: Do these types of versions of Live have re-wire enabled?

I'm under the impression that Live Lite doesn't support rewire. I've got a copy in the house that i've not installed for that very reason. Although I also believe there's more than one version of "Lite", depending on what it came bundled with. Anyone actually got this going?

Nice one. Time to dig out the cd that came with my firewire 410, or my 02 controller. Can't remember which, but one of them had live lite.

You can rewire using Live lite but it will enter demo mode by default. This disables saving, rendering and exporting inside live. The question is then, why use live 4 lite in demo mode when you can use the free demo of 5 with unlimited tracks and many additional features. The demo modes for both versions suffer the same restrictions. Of course, the beauty of rewire is that you can simply render tracks in T2.

I've just set up a student's ibook to use T2 and Live 5 demo rewired. It worked great. I don't think the platform difference is an issue.
What steps have you taken so far? Without knowing, I'll walk through them here.
1 activate Rewire on T2 settings page
2 drop filter on a track in T2 and select rewire
3 select Ableton Live rewire device in the filter property panel
4 launch Live - you should get a warning that Live is acting as rewire slave
5 load a sample/loop into one of the session slots and press play
6 IF T2 and LIVE DO NOT START UP and SYNC, QUIT LIVE, THEN TRACKTION
7 RESTART T2, repeat steps
For some reason, the rewire client doesn't always work the first time. After restarting, things are super easy. Transport controls for either program work both. This is also true for markers and looping regions. Obviously, Live really shines here, timestretching on the fly to match any tempo changes in T2 immediately.
To render Live to T2, insert a blank midi clip, select the rewired track, click render and select add to project so you don't have to repeat the rewire setup for the next track. I'm also fairly sure you can set up multiple track feeds simultaneously using rewire channels.
Midi input can't be routed out of Tracktion to Live but either program can recieve midi from your interface. I prefer to record midi directly into live and edit it there before rendering the audio output into T2.
Best thing is all of this can be done with the FREE Live 5 demo. That's like getting a heck of a plug in for T2. If you own Live, you can export the midi files to edit in Tracktion, save & render projects. When using rewire mode, remember to always start Live after Tracktion and quit Live before T2.

To follow up, I should mention that I've been using the live lite 4 that came with my m-audio box for a while now. It IS useful in that you can save, render and export, not just sets but midi instruments and fx settings too. Sometimes I'll reopen those projects in the live 5 demo rewired to T2.
Both versions can coexist on your hd without conflicts.

One more thing, you can also reroute the audio from live's demo to T2 using the Jack app. For that matter, you can send it anywhere or even record in the other direction. Handy if you need to apply warp marker stretching to stuff you've recorded in T2.

You perhaps have given us the secret to usable time stretch in T2. I will be trying this at home, tonight.
Thank you in advance - I see it's a 42 MB download - but I can live with that if it gives me T2 timestretch.

Well, hey, I can't take credit but thanks just the same.
From what I can tell, there are a number of us who use both apps.
Vernon Reid appears on both company sites and is quoted as using Live rewired to T2. That impressed me because he added T2 after being an Ableton user and T2 requires acting as the rewire master. Why go to the trouble of reworking his setup around a new app? According to him, ease of use and workflow.
I work with kids all the time who are beginning hd recording. Tracktion is hands down the best cross platform app for them right now. They get results right away and discover more features as they go.
I'm sure Tracktion will continue to improve too. I'll be glad when some of those features in the recent poll begin to show up. Imagine what version 3 or 4 is going to look like. Convergence will probably solve most of the issues people have now.
