Is pop music at its bottom?

Suppose they want someone with live stage brain-washing value due to their charismatic appeal. Wacko Jacko was good at that. He had da moves. But he had great pitch and a sick band too. Now we got these morons which are totally image based. The 'cool factor' sells. Makes people feel comfortable to be part of a trend. I was sucked in too as a kid - basketball cards.. That one got me. I also bought MC Hammer. But liked it for the Rick James bassline. So I had standards back then too.

"Yeah those show business types are those wankey - well toned high maintainence University Guild Reps who go 'Hi gang!' and get all the good attention from the girls. Shit I am jealous. True. Thats why Im toning up and gettin a tan."
You should see my tan
. I'm definitely "white", rasism aside. I don't like tanned people, too, many of them just think looks is the most important thing in the world and who cares about brains? Thinking for yourself and making a point? Now, I'm not saying every tanned guy or a gal in the world is plain dum
, but in my experience most of them are... you know.
Tan and material possesions are usually reversely proportional to the brain mass or at least to some kind of "good" or "proper" [whatever you call it] behaviour IMO. OK, now you can kick my arse for stating that and say it's not true...
Cheers!

See I'm gonna guess that people like Chag probably just think we're a bunch of whinging little bitches
But it's more than that: There is an innate feeling that some people just aren't worthy of the air they breathe. People who seek to rape and pillage the world in various ways, and it's saddening to think they're on our TV screens made out to be Idols every day!

Noooo... boy-bands and gal-bands are sooooo coool
, they make [?!] such wonderful music and look sooooo good, or is it the other way around?
. Yep, they call me Mr.Sarcasm. Seriously, when I [you?] take a look at the current top-lists or, god forbid, try listening to MTV or some popular radio station for a few hours, I feel more wasted than... well put whatever you feel totally wasted from here
.

No, there are just extremely serious things to concerned about, which I guess are related, but in the light of which none of this matters at all.Andrew Vernon wrote:See I'm gonna guess that people like Chag probably just think we're a bunch of whinging little bitches

Well, in the grand scheme of things (if there is such a thing) none of this head-candy stuff really matters...
... or does it?
Perhaps the grand scheme of things IS the head-candy... perhaps it's different for each individual... Perhaps for one person.. visualisations are the most important thing (painters, sculpters) and others brain candy... (scientists, theologians, philosophers)
It's all good. It's all applicable and it's all useful in ways. But only if you analyse it and question it.
People who accept these things blindly... well.. they're just cockjockeys.

True. When you have somebody like Michael Jackson leading the pack, how is somebody going to get more innovative than that? With production, entertainment value, dance moves, vocal styling, etc.. He's a once in a generation type of artist, hell maybe a once in a lifetime. It takes an extreme set of circumstances for somebody to be like Michael Jackson, which is also why he's so f-ed up.AudioWhore wrote:I do indeed hang around like minded people. Although my best friend loves his rnb but he is also a macho policeman that is very happy usually and loves talking about sex constantly. Not very cerebral bloke but a nice guy nevertheless. Hes my best friend for fcuk sake. But I do know Im more advanced at atleast one thing on this earth than him. And that isnt women!Oh and Audiowhore, the key to getting out of that style of unhappiness is hanging around with people who are like-minded.
Michael Jackson was a genious at pop I reckon. George Michael is pretty good too. But look at Michael Jackson. A bit of a wierdo - but as they say "There is a fine line between genious and insanity"... All the pop these days doesnt have nearly the same amount of funk or soul as michael jackson. Its just straight out EVIL!! Latest Madonna song was ok but.. There are a few exceptions. But they all arent exactly deep. Not how I would like anyway.
But if you look at pop at a whole, I wouldn't say it's any worse than it's ever been. You always have people who come out and innovate, that's immediately followed by people that come by and try and duplicate what they've done. Rinse and repeat.
But on the other hand, that could very well change. There's a musical revolution going on, and we're a part of it. All it's going to take is some group or person coming out with an amazing album produced in a home studio, signed to an independent label, and reaches massive mainstream success and the floodgates will open. As musical equipment is getting more and more accessible it's feasible that with a few bucks people can make a very high quality album with production value that rivals the big guys.
That'll stir the pot I can promise you.

Im just gettin sick of commercial tv stations having control of our minds. Australia is bad. We got mostly commercial stuff. In UK i heard it was better because most of the stations are BBC arent they (pay tv).. It seems to correlate with the general intelligence of our country I reckon. Sure our 'sheep' do well at school - because this is conforming behaviour also, but nothing really new, revolutionary or exciting comes out of here. We are a nation of sheep. Our obsession is cars and live off boring arse farms. Destroy the land, cut all the trees down and create salination. Mining is our main export. More big men.. We love sport. Sport is ok. I played it for a while. I have a sporty physique also. But I want my holographic gaming centres!! I want exciting shit!! Not footy and beer. I wish we could be more like japan. I guess we cant because we think of our dicks too much. Smaller the dick the further the progress I reckon. But my dick aint that small so I must just have mental problems hehe..

I must say this is also so true that it almost hurts. Actually, it hurts, cause I'm hypersensitive... There ARE so many more important problems in light of which these problems seem utterly trivial and I sincerely hope they'll be solved, at least in this century.chagzuki wrote:No, there are just extremely serious things to concerned about, which I guess are related, but in the light of which none of this matters at all.Andrew Vernon wrote:See I'm gonna guess that people like Chag probably just think we're a bunch of whinging little bitches

I don't listen to the radio here (UK)
The only radio stations I do listen to are www.stillstream.com and Intelligent Machinery Radio (http://intelligentmachinery.net/)
/plug mode: off
I just wish we had a national law that meant everyone had to consume at least 30 grams of psychedelic mushrooms per week.
Oh well.. a fascist can dream....

But the fact is there are indeed more important problems in the world. Such as WAR (duh) and starvation and bird flu and tsunamis etc...
BUT..
The media that controls the minds of the masses is one of the biggest problems I find. And shitty pop music is just one of the side effects.
Its all because we are ruled by money..
In the startrek universe there is no need for money (loves me startrek heh). I know money represents 'quantity of labour' but it also means the rich get richer, too powerful, and there is less equality in the world. What we need is a damn licence to have kids, a stronger set of moral values, and generally a more loving sharing caring society that legalises pot!
