Did you know that The Spice Girls were really advocating tight dresses, loads of slap and selling thier knickers for fame and not the revolutionary beliefs of Rosa Luxemburg? Thank god Destiny's Child haven't objectifed themselves in the same way.

Destiny's child are to black and womens liberation what Elton John is to gay lib. They're just pop fluff like all the rest of the manufactured acts in the charts. They did some good songs but so did SWV and MC Hammer.

I ignore both of course....Both thai food and alchohol are in the blood. Asking me to not eat or drink them is like asking me to stop breathing. I actually think thai helps me deal with phlegm. Anyway its all good in moderation

She is technically very good, just like Christina Aguilera..

But..

I still prefer the oldschool 60s/70s rnb/soul sound because more time and thought went into the actual music. There were funky basslines, huge horns, phat drums that we still sample today, lovely phased rhodes, and tight funky guitars doin their thing.. Also some worthy lyrics (sometimes)..

These days its some dude makin a plinkety - plonk 'beat' based on a simple loop with no real swing, using the same formulaic rnb clap sound over and over again, and no real changes in structure of the song from beginning to end. Sure its really cleanly produced with the most expensive gear, but it sounds really sterile. I wanna hear bits where the main singer shuts up for 4 bars for a recess, and come back for a different effect. Its always the same verse/chorus formula..

Im bored with choruses in every kind of music. Im done with them. Its so pre-school hehehe.. I want slow builds and gradual drops. Music these days is so conforming.

but I guess if you get rid of a chorus you get rid of the 'sing along factor' too.. girlies love that

It's the radio format...

Now we're still arranging vocals for this but as it is a disco track we shut up or go into the background on it a bit to give the instrumentation some room to breath.

Yes it has a verse/chorus structure but its a little more complex than typical RnB or Disco...

And what is worse is when I hear classic songs like 'superstition' by Stevie Wonder, 'hang up your hangups' by Herbie Hancock and 'Superfly' by Curtis Mayfield stolen to make these new pop tunes.

Sure they may have got permission/or the big majors have the rights to the songs anyway but..

They just lose most of the soul from the original track. And they pick a loop and flog it throughout the song. I see it as a real lazy way of making music.
