That's for sure! I do find I'm getting more open-minded about different styles the older I get (think that's supposed to happen...), which includes pop (used to be more of an alternative-prog guy). But I would agree with anyone that there is a lot to not like about the music industry and formulaic music, same with movies, TV, etc. But I have always liked a good, catchy tune as well, so it's hard to just blanket-say "all pop sucks".Andrew Vernon wrote:Hehe. I think at the end of the day, we all pretty much just have strong ideas about taste. We have that in common at least.

Beyonce is slick. At soft-porn style gyrating. She took the porn-factor of pop to new levels.

I hesitate to raise this thorny issue but apart from the fact that Beyonce is beautiful do you think she has been marketed more because her image has been projected as less 'black' than the other two? In the image below for example, Beyonce could be an exotic Latino or even a WASP with a dark tan.

I think there has been a recurrance of this strategy in pop history by record companies and it's well dodgy IMO. I don't doubt that Beyonce is very talented but I'm sure Kelly is too. I'm completely aware that ethnicity is very diverse but certain types of ethnicity appear to be favoured more than others by record companies and other areas of the media. What do others think?

I don't think they're "hot" at all. They look bland and shallow to me.

She's a natural blonde, you know. She does straighten her hair though: it's naturally slightly curly.munchkin wrote:I hesitate to raise this thorny issue but apart from the fact that Beyonce is beautiful do you think she has been marketed more because her image has been projected as less 'black' than the other two? The whole look is vulgar to me. I can say that with total honesty. Same goes for any performer in this vein; kylie or whoever. Not that they're not good-looking: of course they are, but the whole package is ugly. It's all brashness and in-your-face confidence based on some notion of sexual desirability. The only emotions it stirs in me is the desire to say 'Get the f**k out of my face'.cptgone wrote:I don't think they're "hot" at all. They look bland and shallow to me.

Not according to her roots (hair I mean). I think everyone adapts their image and there is nothing wrong with this but in western society racism has dictated what images of women are considered acceptable by the media. This may have improved but I believe it still influences who gets promoted and who doesn't, especially among women musicians.chagzuki wrote:She's a natural blonde, you know. Yeah I'm with you. I mean, I would hang out the back of Beyonce, but that's not gonna make me appreciate her existence in this world.chagzuki wrote:The whole look is vulgar to me. In fact, what I meant was that the whole package doesn't look human. So there's nothing that can be fancied.
