I hesitate to raise this thorny issue but apart from the fact that Beyonce is beautiful do you think she has been marketed more because her image has been projected as less 'black' than the other two? In the image below for example, Beyonce could be an exotic Latino or even a WASP with a dark tan.
I think there has been a recurrance of this strategy in pop history by record companies and it's well dodgy IMO. I don't doubt that Beyonce is very talented but I'm sure Kelly is too. I'm completely aware that ethnicity is very diverse but certain types of ethnicity appear to be favoured more than others by record companies and other areas of the media. What do others think?

I think the entertainment industry takes pretty, talented girls and tries to turn them all into the same, homogenous blonde. You see it time and time again, they cast them in bland, predictable movies, give them bland, predictable production and overexposure and then wonder why nobody gives a shit anymore!

I don't know what industry mogul gets to decide all this stuff, but he's a drag.

I agree but I think the image of pop stars and porn stars has never been closer in pop history. There was a brief period in the 70's when disco diva's looked like they were out of a colour climax mag but I think the music styles of the 80's and 90's led to a divergence of images.

Now that sex is so upfront in the pop agenda and pop has become homogenous product. I believe it's incorporating porn images to add titilation to an otherwise sterile environment.

John Pilger did a good bit in one of his books about the 'destruction' of fleet street, the downfall of the 'intelligent' working class media etc.
