Hey legend. Nice to see you around KVR. "Inside" had a great impact on me (both as a programmer and a musician) and I still think it has one of the best soundtracks ever - and all with a 4-channel MOD.
Ok, I guess this is madly off topic, but you can get Legend's Eyegaboom here:

I'm using a X2 4200+ on a barebone, the Shuttle SN25P. The system is completed with 2gb of ram, 3 SATAII HDs(80+160+250gb), and a Presonus Firebox.
Cubase SX3 runs perfectly!
Whenever I move to a studio I easily carry the machine on its small bag (PF60 supplied by Shuttle).

yesterday you whined about the same thing in some other Cubase related thread (and you were answered, go have a look). It's obvious you have some kind of driver/hardware/bios related issue as you should get equal single core performance out of the two machines.
Whoa. What are you talking about "Whining". That's so stupid of you to say since I'm not whining at all. The subject came up and I mentioned what I'm personally experiencing. You're such a moron for saying this. If I were to whine about it I definately wouldn't whine here, I'd whine to HP or to Athlon. As it is, I'm actually not really that concerned about it. My world doesn't start and stop with the speed of my machine, or defending it's performance. Get a freakin life.

Sorry for ever having concern for your problem at any point. I didn't realise what your setup was. You're beyond the range of anyone being able to help.
Why in the world are you attacking me? I haven't said anything offensive to anyone, yet you say I'm whining. I'm stating my experience as plainly and matter of factly as I possibly can, yet you're still finding reason to bitch. I can't understand how some of you guys can be so soft and easily offended. You're apparently offended that I would suggest that I'm not getting the same performance as others.

I also have an Athlon 3200+ and the 3200 out performs the x2 3800 both in problem free low latency and overall performance. I'm using the very latest update of Cubase SX3, Reason 3 and FL Studio. The X2 handles Rewire better, but that's it. A couple of the FL Studio demo songs actually overload the x2 machine! I didn't actually do the research and choose a specific motherboard though. I bought an "over the counter" HP machine since the price was right and I expected that it would at least, easily outperform the machine that I currently had. To my shock, it doesn't even come close to matching it, let alone surpassing it. Any advice is totally welcome. Also, I get all kinds of cpu spikes. For now, I went back to primarily working on the 3200. Both machines have 1.5 Gigs of Ram by the way.
Cubase:
1. Check the multi-processing box in Expert VST audio settings
2. To get rid of CPU-meter flakyness, install the AMD dual-core driver
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Tec ... 18,00.html

According to a post somewhere on here, FL studio hasn't got support for dual-core. Don't know about Reason.. probably not?

Sounds like you've got something additional going on too.. the X2 3800+ should be equally fast to your other processor in single-processor apps. Tried removing some of the apps that HP presumably setup to start on boot? See www.musicxp.net for optimization tips.

I just took a look and the multi-processing box is already checked in Cubase. I'd installed the AMD driver earlier because someone pointed to it in an earlier thread. Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna leave this thread alone since there are people here who want to turn this into some kind of chest beating contest.

Edit:

LOL, I said I was gonna leave this alone but after taking a closer look I'm seeing some things that may be of interest to some. I'd mentioned that some of the FL demo tunes overloaded the x2 box. Well, I took another look at it and this time I brought up the Windows task manager and watched the processor usage both in FL and on the task manager. What I found was that when in FL the processor usage hit 60% and above, the Task Manager showed from 28-40%. I checked the same thing on the 3200 box. The result was flipped. FL showed around 30-40%(and excellent performance) while the Task Manager went went as high as 71%. I also reinstalled the AMD driver and took another look at SX3. This time, no spikes and also no performance problems. No audio glitches or pops or clicks. So what I've found is that the meter in FL isn't necessarily correct. I might have suspected this since I'd seen this earlier in Reason. All very interesting.

I am building 2 new dual core systems using the X2 4400+.
Nuendo.com, the Nuendo forum has an exhaustive list of users who are building, benchmarking, and helping others build dual core systems. The posters range from laymen to rocket scientists, and all are seemingly eager to help. Have a look & good luck.

I think that Kingston was mainly just being sarchastic here. I just want to add though that PC vendors will make damn sure that a midline PC does not outperform their hi dollar PC. Further, just because it is a big vendor doesnt mean it will be a good PC.

I have a dual xeon 3.2 GHz HP workstation here at work. My home Athlon 3700+ easily smokes it in FL studio.(the only app I have compared the 2 in) The dual xeon uses 1/3rd more CPU on average for most projects, and cannot play some projects that I play on my home pc without disabling efx.

That said, the HP is dead quiet, reliable and allows me to run 5 virtual PCs + the OS so that I can handle running all the scripts, file copies, and AD/exch admin tasks my job requires. I do however think that the OS makes a huge difference. are you still using the stock image that came with the HP?
