Tracktion Software

I am looking to get this device, I currently use a Guitarport and an Mbox, the Mbox is noisy so, the UX2 looked really nice.. Has anyone gotten one? Will it work with Tracktion? Any opinions or comments would really be appreciated.

I've written e-mails to Line6 asking for details on the self noise of the UX2 - there is no specs on the site, and they can't seem to provide them to me. It's quite frustrating. The demos look nice and the unit itself would be quite stylish on the desk!!!

It should work since it's ASIO compliant. I use a GuitarPort too as well as a Presonus Firepod.

I'm using the UX1 and T2 with no issues. Latency is really low and Gearbox has a hum "learn" as well as a noise gate.

Forgot to mention...I have an MBOX2 and I only use the Toneport when recording the guitar parts. I switch back to the MBOX for other parts and mixing.

I'd be curious to know about the mic preamps on the UX2. My current setup is quickly crapping out on me (my DI, my mic pre, and then there's the mixer which has always been mediocre) and I'm considering the UX2 to replace the whole shebang and get amp modeling into the bargain.

I've been having a very interesting e-mail dialog with Line6 tech support on the issue of mic pre-amps. The latest exchange claims that there really aren't any mic pre-amps on the device, that the mic pre-amps are all modelled!!!

Needless to say, I had to reply that I'm interested in the analog section of the device.

Reply back was the same!!!

I have the whole exchange. I'm going to give the guy a chance to send the question to someone else that understands A/D, because it's obvious that this guy doesn't.

If I get some snotty answer back - then I'm going to post the whole thing here for your amusement.

I really am interested in the device, but this experience has soured me to Line6 at present.

Yeah, I understand that the "sounds" of their pre-amps are modeled, but there IS obviously a pre-amp IN there. The guy that you were talking to surely must understand that the incoming microphone signal must go through a preamp section.

I wouldn't be so sure about that

I just got off the phone with a guy from India (no offense meant to any Indians; it just seems like an awful long way away, with zero accountability factor)
who decided my internet connection problems were the result of a virus on my computer. The fact that the problem comes and goes at different times of day, and two different virus scanners turn up nothing, seemed not to concern him at all.

I've since learned that SBC is upgrading their network, and some down time is to be expected over the next few days.

My point? Many (not all, of course) phone support people are abysmally unqualified.

Please let us know the results if you get one of these. It's an intriguing piece.

I use a Guitarport currently, and highly recommend it. I personally feel most of the amp models are head and shoulders above Amplitube or Guitar Rig. Granted this is a very subjective thing, but that's my .02

Any type of Line 6 support that I have ever gotten has been very poor, bordering on rude. Great products, horrible customer service. Glad to hear the UX 1 is working good!!

I'm at the point now where I'm so sick of thinking about guitar tone that I'm willing to just put my faith into one of the suckers and run with it. I'd already have the POD XT Pro, except that it's so pricey.

Then I'd just feed it into my existing soundcard.

For me, the real question (which I still haven't researched to answer yet) will be how well I can get both a guitar and a microphone signal into my DAW, in a convenient way. I'd ideally like one unit, but I'd settle for 2. Knowing that the Tube MP handles Hi-Z inputs changes the equation at least a little-- I might then settle for software amp and just keep using my current setup. Looks like the forthcoming selections are all hardware+software only, not soft.

The Guitar Combos were an option for a little while... I was thinking I just need a good Tweed and a good Marshall. But then I got thinking... despite my claims in other threads that rectified high-gain heads are overrated, they nonetheless provide a distinct and important sound. Then I remembered the AC30, which is really a must-have sound. I play some bass, so I'd want a bass amp of some sort, too, though I generally just do a DI sound for bass so I'm not as fussed. In any case, that's 4 "must have" amp models, one of which is not offered as a Guitar Combo by NI. And even if they were, that's $80X4 = $320. Might as well just get GR2 at that price.

I dunno.. there are so many options for guitarists, the only real problem is that I don't have a LOT of money for such things, so I have to be happy with my purchase. I can't just get AT2 or GR2 and then say, "Meh, it's still not cutting it..."

The more people talk about the PodXT (which is an 'aging' product, but holding up well!) the more I'm tempted to just get one. But unlike some people, I don't just dial in a sound and find myself happy with it. I need re-amping because I often decide to switch tones mid-song. Maybe not drastically, but still not something simple EQ could take care of.

I don't think the UX2 allows for decent re-amping either, though, now that I'm looking at it a bit closer.

*sigh*... the elusive quest.

Really, despite my current dislike for IK, AT2 is looking like the winner for my guitar needs feature-wise... but price??? Insane....

I've had nothing but good experiences with Line 6 tech support, as have dozens of aquantances of mine...

Of course, we all own Vettas, so I imagine our $1,700 might get us a bit more tech support than everyone else's $100

Still, I've seen guys completely fry their Vettas and Variaxes and it was completely their own fault. Usually doing something risky, like trying to mod the hardware of firmware. Still, in most cases Line 6 has been great about issuing free replacements.

Actually, I can't think of a single case where someone didn't get theirs replaced... I'm sure it's happened, but not to any of the guys I know.
