I can see being angry at a family member for doing this, but damn, disowning him? That's pretty harsh.

Please do not do that. Human relations are far far more important and precious than software piracy or whatever. Getting mad at others because of the way they think is pointless. You can't change others this way, but you can waste your life trying. It's not like your cousing will come at your house one day crying that he was wrong, simply because you broke relations with him. It's not going to happen.

Reporting acts of piracy is, I suppose, an ok thing to do. It is not going to make any noticable difference because the whole philosophy behind piracy is deeply routed in the human nature. But if enough heads bang against the same wall, perhaps the wall will move a little.

Hi,

I strongly encourage the initiative. I think it should go hand in hand with more legal user rights (personal copies, no dongles, no protection that cripples your pc, updates that really add smth etc..) . No complaints about your products, they're well polished and not to expensive, but maybe you're not representative for the whole "industry". I fear that such a witch hunt ends with the end-user as a victim.

Cheers,

Make your mind up. These statements are actually contradictory.

Soulbrother hit the nail on the head there.

I think it's fair to say most people that use warez would never buy the products anyway. They might have bought cheaper apps though, so it's the little developers that are really getting hurt; not the Steingbergs or the Cakewalks etc...

WilliamK you might be taking things a bit far - your family relationships are more important than Sony's profits. Go talk to your cousin about the implications of pirate software but don't disown him.

Anyway, the warez scene has spawned a whole new industry dedicated to copy protection - if warez disappear so will a lot of jobs...

Those family members should not be disowned but that does not mean you can have the same respect for them.

Being a family member should not mean that your love is unconditional, I think that notion is ridiculous.

I think we should do something a'la Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. and got to every W4r3Z kids house and kick his ass. or we could just play "my humps" through bull horns in his ear.

 Please tell me your joking? Well then hell, My family should be a family no more. As for just about every other family out there. Let me tell you a very private and sensitive story, but I feel it would get my point across precisely. When I was little my step father used to beat my mom, and we were always the ones to see it (me and my bro). Well, time has gone on, and somehow my mom forgave him time after time. Let me tell you, he has become one of the greatest people i've ever known. He treats my mom perfectly, he works alllll day now and brings home that money, and he takes that money and they pay bills, he takes the rest of that money and takes my mother shopping alll the time. He always does everything for her now, and he has went from literally being a worker at 5 an hour to become plant manager at his job. Some people are wacked, but with understanding and still respecting that human being regardless of what has been done is the ultimate cure, and he is a perfect example of that. Family is family, you don't go ruining it just becuase someone makes mistakes, you carry on and do all you can to understand them and ,yes, still care for them and be there for them even those they have done and may even still do dumb ass things. Maybe it's just me, I know others have different perspective on family. I have a small family who is closer than ever because we've all struggled our asses off as a family to rise above obstacles. It's allll good now baby ;-). I'm not bagging on you, it does irritate me a bit when someone undervalues family and the bond that they have between one another, and i'm not saying you are that type of person who undervalues family AT ALL, but that statement seemed a little shallow to me.

First you say that a human relationship with someone is
more important than them doing something, then you say that the threat of a ceased relationship isnt important enough for the same someone to stop doing that something...

Is it more important, or isnt it?

William the thing you do is kinda snitchy and I hate being a snitch. Anyway, the warez problem is not that simple as just being politically correct. I do not know about software but look what is going on with the music industry. I have tones of original CDs and vinyl, how am I gettin' rewarded?? By Sony spying me through the latest CD I bought. Howz' that? How legitimate is that? How legitimate is the fact that an e-tune costs $0.99!! The full album costs $9.99!!! $9.99 is a fcuking rip off, no operational costs, no distribution cost, no sleeve costs, no no no no everything and still a download is way more expensive than the real thing. I am fed up with CDs that I can't transfer to my mp3 player, that spy on me, that I can't listen to my computer. I am fed up with games not working with particular drives, installing things without telling, need the CD in the drive etc. Legitimate users get punished, warez users are totally cool. Every step they take against piracy, it hurts the proper consumer. The more stricter it is, the more people will use cracks and stuff.

For Gods shake, if they are about to fcuk me, I preferring fckuing them instead. That is my opinion and I believe its pretty honest but mainly focused to music rather than audio software. Aside from that I believe there is so much good stuff free around that I do not see why some are still using warez, personally I haven't downloaded cracked stuff for many many years but I can see why some do. Most of them are just hobbyists, believe me that most of them would never spent even $1 on buying something, warez or not being accessible. It is all in your heart, if you “fill” someone’s work is good then you just give the money and you are so fcuking happy for doing that! Most of the kids that have millions of mp3s or software you think they listen or use them? Nope, a kiddo may just play a bit with the CS80, listen some presets and that’s about it. A couple of days later he will download the newest VST play with it and the circle goes on and on and on. Is this the customer developers are aiming at? Do not think so!

The only people that disgust me though are the ones that make money, the traders, the ones that sell the work of others. Cracking something and just sharing it, I can understand, cracking something and selling it that is something I really hate. Because that way you get rich on somebody else efforts. Which is repulsive.

Though if the big guys were to lower their prices that'd squeeze some small developers out of the market.

whyterabbyt...

I will try to explain myself in greater detail. I am not sure if you really care or not but in the case you do, here goes...

I do not think that disagreeing with someone justifies any long term anger, hatred, grief... or anything of that sort. Especially if they previously were close to us. This is my opinion, not necessarily yours, nor William's, nor William's cousin.

William decided to break his relations with his cousin because the latter was not paying for his Playstation games. I think this is a "reason-->action" mismatch. My cat stepped on my foot so I had to paint the wall blue... that sort of thing. Again, this is my kind of thinking, William has his own. His cousin has his own too.

In my first post I was talking to William, not his cousin.

Hope that clears things up
