Holy shit! :-o

Bravo, mate...

Post

the more you fight it, the more they will do it.

get on with developing,

people have always copied things.. be it, music, recording concerts from TV, bootlegs, copying albums (you never did that, yeh right).

the guys that want your software will buy it, the ones that cant buy it will steal it, the same for every dev out there.

its a fact of life, deal with it. :(

Post

KVR is effectively fighting warez.

KVR is a site dedicated to almost all types of audo related software. Providing workable links to demoversions as well as pointing the inexperienced user to alternative freeware. Informing about updates on current \ latest versions of said software.

KVR is posessed :hihi: by a passionate group of audiosoftwareusers who, more often than not, will be happy to offer opinions and insight on the use and application of the above mentioned software. A group who 9 times out of 10 will be much more informative and helpful than ANY support person for ANY software developer.

There is a lot of software out there, and for a newbee it may more tempting to do the easy thing rather than the right thing ( Sorry, I just saw the latest Harry Potter flick...which sucked btw, but I liked that qoute..). Warez "teams" and people who advocate using warez have always maintained the stance of "Try before buy". With such forums as KVR freely available to everyone, that stance \ argument holds no validity whatsoever.

Much love

This is an excellent idea and I congratulate you on your public-spiritedness and the selfless zeal with which you went about your allotted task.

To judge from some of the replies in this thread, many KVR members seem to have more than a little sympathy with warez users. This is deeply shocking to all honest users of software.

WAREZ IS STEALING!!!!!

Let's be quite clear about this.

What I suggest is that rather than risk infection by exploring trojan-ridden Internet warez sites, why not start our investigations right here at KVR. There seem to be plenty of members with HIGHLY SUSPECT attitudes. What's the betting that many of them are using ILLEGAL CRACKED SOFTWARE?

Let's make a list of everyone who posts in threads like this saying that it's okay to use warez, everyone does it, software costs too much, etc - you know the tired old excuses.

Warez use seems to be like drug use. I've read that many CRIMINAL warez users download hundreds of programs they'll never even use. It's an addiction, just like crack cocaine. But it's WORSE than crack cocaine because addicts only harm themselves and they deserve all they get. Warez users harm EVERYONE by forcing hard-pressed companies like Steinberg to invest millions on dollars in copy-protection thus making software more expensive for HONEST users.

You're right, WilliamK, something needs to be done RIGHT NOW!

Here's my suggestion. We'll search the KVR archives for members who've made posts sympathetic to warez use and put them on a blacklist of unsound members.

Whenever one of the blacklisted members posts here asking for feedback or help of any kind, we'll immediately post to the thread informing everyone that they're a blacklisted warez-sympathiser (and probable warez user) and are not to be given any help, feedback, whatever.

Any member who ignores our request will be immediately added to the blacklist.

The blacklist will also be sent to all major audio software developers, the BSA, FBI, NSA and Interpol, so they can instigate their own investigations concerning the ILLEGAL content of the blacklistees' hard-drives.

Where their place of work is known, we can also contact their employers and inform them of their employee's sympathy with warez. Hopefully they'll soon be looking for another job!

If they have websites, we can contact the ISPs to have them removed.

Policing, like charity, should begin at home, so let's clean up KVR and get rid of all the warez kiddies so that it's a fit place for honest, upright men like you and me.

BTW, it's good that you broke off relations with your thieving cousin, but you don't say whether you reported him to the police? I sure hope so. I reckon a ten-year stretch is about the right medicine for low-down scum like that.

Right then, let's get down to it!

I'm going to start searching the archives right now. Do you think we should form a committee, Bill? Some sort of organisation? How about a name?

I propose the, Clean Up Community Kvr Opposition Organisation.

Let me know if you like it!

Where did you get this program ? i thought all sites containing fascists programs were turned down ? lol

You know violating human rights doesn't make you better than warez users.

the Clean up Community (omg LOL )

if u have some spare time, continue with ethnical cleaning :)

Warez are definately wrong but find better ways to fight it

It's a Satyre but couldn't resist LOL :

Let's be quite clear about this.

What I suggest is that rather than risk infection by foreigners, why not start our investigations right here in Europe. There seem to be plenty of people with HIGHLY SUSPECT attitudes. What's the betting that many of them are using ILLEGAL Culture?

Let's make a list of everyone who posts in threads like this saying that it's okay if you're not like me, everyone does it, your country is poor, etc - you know the tired old excuses.

. I

Here's my suggestion. We'll search the towns for people who've made posts sympathetic to foreigners and put them on a blacklist of unsound members.

Whenever one of the blacklisted members posts here asking for feedback or help of any kind, we'll immediately post to the thread informing everyone that they're a blacklisted foreigner-sympathiser (and probable not pure) and are not to be given any help, feedback, whatever.

Any citizen who ignores our request will be immediately added to the blacklist.

The blacklist will also be sent to all major servicess, the GESTAPO, SS ... so they can instigate their own investigations concerning the ILLEGAL content of the blacklistees' citizens.

Where their place of work is known, we can also contact their employers and inform them of their employee's sympathy with foreigners. Hopefully they'll soon be looking for another job!

Selling pirated programs is one of the
lamest things a person can do.
Buying them is even lamer when you consider
they are actually readily available for
free if you know where to look.

If I was looking for warez (which I'm not)
the last place I would look is on the web.

I know it may seem wierd but the warez
groups themselves actually have a code of
honour and are totally against the sale of
warez.

Probably because they know that,
more than any other thing, it turns
people against them.

H2O.....the group that cracked SX3 have a
motto/slogan:

"DON'T MAKE MONEY SELLING WAREZ!!!"

Other warez groups exort people to buy the
software if they like it or use it
professionally.

For the people who actually crack the
programs....it's not about money.

Mainly, it's about 2 things:

1: Giving people a real chance to get to
know a program and make an informed decision
on whether you like it or not.

2: Status derived from defeating copy protection.

The low lifes who sell warez on the net
are hated by both sides.

Strange but true.

You realize that the crackers are still very guilty, right?

Post

I'll say this once and have done.

I am a normal kvr-anti-warez-pay-for-what-you-use kind of guy.

I have turned down warez of every kind from people and try to use the standard kvr "But these guys need to eat and buy their kids clothes" argument on them when they offer it.

That being said.....

I really find the vicious zeal with which some people denounce users of warez to be disturbing. Like some people are just looking for someone to belittle anyway and warez acts as a pretext.

I mean, I understand, it's just kinda creepy sometimes.

P.S. I have seen little of that in this thread, and certainly agree with WilliamK's initial post.

Of course.
And so is anyone who sells/uses illicit
drugs.... but how many people here do you
reckon do that?

The morality of the situation is not my
point.

The main thing I was trying to get across
is they are not in it for the money.

And for anyone who actually bought warez,
even if they paid next to nothing, compared
to the original price....well the jokes on them
.......and they're causing more harm to
developers by encouraging people to
sell warez.

Most warez groups and release channels
are undergorund and out of reach to
everyday people....it's the ebay sellers
who are really bringing it to the masses
and causing more harm.......

I know it's hard for some people to accept
that people aren't in it for the money,
but it is definitely so..... there are actually
people on the planet for whom financial
gain is not the main motivator.

Exactly. Chase came here as a 16 year old warez user looking for "trance synths" and seriously didnt even know that ANY freeware existed. A few months and gaffy threads later, Chase uses only legit payware and freebies.

This is why instead of flaming warez users at KVR/DOA like I used to after buying my shit, I throw down a few kind sentances on why they shouldnt pirate and point them towards the freeware. Sometimes (most?) that's all it takes. Like I said earlier, To convince my bro not to use cracks, all i did was d/l all the great freebies for him and nag him a bit to buy the host. I think everyone should do this to the new users that come here as the basic obvious warez user and start threads that turn into "OH MY GOD YOU PIRATE!?! BURN! YOU BURN IN HELL YOU MONGER TWAT!!!" by angry KvRians.

Just my 2 cents.

.
I dont think warez can be compared to drug use. Drug use harms the user and may cause a bit of violence down the line, but it is not direct stealing like warez using is.

But I think the crack teams who dont get money for it are kind of like stealing items from a store and giving them away for free - they arent making any money, but play a key role in the theft. They are hosting wide-open, global black markets.

Personally, If i was a developer, I would buy a cheap-ass $300 computer, install all the p2p programs i could find, and search for the software, gathering the I.P.'s I need and sending them to the right places, just like the RIAA does...
