I'm going to have to disagree with you on that.

I've even had a close friend steal stuff from me, to sell it, to buy booze which he hid to consume, while living in my house.

Experiences like this make me doubt that alcohol is really distinct from any other addictive drug.

And let's not forget tobacco. Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances and tar and CO2 from tobacco cause the most deaths in the UK. There is a multi-million industry in black market cigarettes.

Passive smoking kills non-smokers. So whether cigarettes are legal or not, smokers are responsible for killing non-smokers. Before we chase warez users I suggest we hunt down smokers and report them to ASH. It's all about prioritising social problems.

Expecting people to bother searching for warez to report it is completely unrealistic.

If my local supermarket or cornershop is robbed I'm not going to hunt down the criminals. That's the job of the police.

Quite frankly I don't care if there are warez out there. Just as I don't care if shops are being robbed. I don't condone it but it's not my problem to sort out. Theft is a fact of life and has been going on since the year dot. That's why my home and contents are insured. I'd expect businesses to do the same.

When someone steals enough of something, police WILL raid that person's house in order to restore compensation.

Corperations HAVE to spend just sick amounts of money towards anti-theft

- Security guards
- Security equipment (including cameras/TV's, etc and their a/v equipment like wiring and shit which has to be installed and monitored by hired, professional personel)
- lawyers
- Data security - the most expensiove of these
- I know im leaving many out. You get the point.

Software business (especially internet-based) is a different game though, as the stolen product is exponentially duplicated and spread around. It takes different systems.

Strangely, down here in Australia,
illegally selling tobbacco is more
of a crime than using marijuana.

In at least 2 states marijuana is
decriminalised, while the tobbacco laws
are draconian.

Not to say that stops people from doing it.

A corporation can insure against any loss they can define and measure. It can also claim the losses against tax liability. It also must delineate these risks and disclose these losses formally in shareholder reports. If the corporation is publicly traded in the US, these reports have the weight of testimony and are submitted to the SEC as if under oath.

Show me where an entertainment house or publisher declared these losses to the IRS as fiscal losses.

youd be surprised the money makin schemes some people will get shot over

ive known of window cleaners,ice cream men(and no i dont mean the infamous ice cream wars of old ) even the guys who stick posters for gigs up,so dont go thinkin only drugs cause people to be killed. even ticket touts over here have been known to get into gun fights and hel we dont even have the gun culture the us has

but yeah i get your point,but surely for the same reason if you saw your neighbour being robbed you might do something because not only is he your neighbour but it keeps the insurance prices down
