T2 audio error

During recording or playback of an edit i continue to get an "audio output device unexpetedly stopped" error..causing the program to freeze..now i can go into settings and restart device and clears it up until about halfway thru a song then it does it again.
Heres what im using
Vaio with 2.4g 512mb dual 80 drives. 2 Echo layla 20 bits (with updated xp drivers) i know theyre old but have never had a problem. Ive tried all the different settings and nothing seems to help.Any ideas, suggestions?..i will soon be going with the audiofire12 by echo...also is this a good choice? thanks any and all comments are greatly appreciated.
