Taste may all be different of course, I prefer Cambridge over Waves EQ any day. There is something about Waves EQ that sucks the life out of the sound, in my ears. I know they are well used, however, I along with some other thinkalikes find them...slightly uncool. Waves Q clone I have heard though and that is an excellent product. You get massenburg and neve quality presets (or any hardware EQ) but unfortunately you are stuck with the presets unless you have the original hardware. If they made an EQ with the "quality of Q Clone", we would be talking great business. The presets are very good though and would work as default settings in a number of circumstances.

UAD-1 Precision EQ is very transparent and fits mastering rather well. Yes, I enjoyed the Fairchild during the demo period, will buy it but there is a lot on the to buy list. G-d knows where I´ll get the doe from.

What I heard from Voxengo EQ is also more exciting than Waves - to these ears. I´d aim at the UAD-1 range and look at the sonalksis range as well.

Well, George Yohng's W1 Limiter is a clone of the L1, or does Freeware not count?

The only plugins I found comparable to Waves (and many times replacing them) are the Sony Oxford plugins for my Powercore Firewire. Honestly I would have sold it(really unstable hardware...aikk!)were it not for those four plugs and the MD3/Brickwall Limiter I have purchased.
Oh, and I shouldn't forget that Powercore cannot be beaten in its reverbs.I stopped using RVerb when I got my Powercore. MegaVerb and ClassicVerb are awesome.

Anyone who doesn't use the same exact software as me is a jerk.

I don't think that attitude is constructive. My post was a response to the suggestion that Waves is overpriced. Someone had to develop the L1 before there could be a W1, etc. Sorry you feel differently. I hope it's OK with you that I make music on the Mac platform.
