If I remember right, Halion Player (1) requires a dongle (2) doesn't include the dongle. IK sells the syncrosoft dongle for $30, and it's the same one other than the color. Neither Steinberg nor Syncrosoft list dongles for sale on their site.

You can't use it without a dongle. Reading the technical features it's easy to understand that it has a dongle protection, it uses Halion 3.1 as audio engine.

See the underlined red bold bit, there's a hint there, subtle as it may be..."Software and Soundware is USB key protected (key included)."
