I sold it to pay for repairs and to get other stuff I needed. I did use it for my university "prepared guitar" piece though.

Changing tunings on a guitar will change the amount of stress on the neck which is counter-acted by the truss rod. Intonation can also be affected. As long as you don't go to extremes with the tunings everything should be fine. Although adjustments may be needed.

Blowing on your guitar can change the intonation (and no I don't mean pleasuring it while it talks to senators on the phone and chows on pizza). Almost any change of any kind anywhere near a guitar will cause it to change it's intonation, which includes humidity changes, absorption of sweat from your hands, changes in the top if it's an acoustic(drying/wetting of the top). Certainly changing the tuning at all will change the bow of the neck, as was mentioned above.

A different neck bow results in different string height which will result in the necessity to change the string length to compensate, or to adjust the truss rod to elimiate the change. Then there is the question of the physics of the same string mass vibrating at a different pitch (from stadard tuning)and how that changes the harmonics, though I'm not qualified to say how that affects intonation.

But it all depends on how "in tune" you really feel you need to play. If you listen to a lot of open-tuned recordings they are at least slightly out of tune. Jimmy Page got famous playing out of tune. :P

Or, as Jimi Hendrix said "Only cowboys play in tune.." :)

To Hink, in response to saying that using different tunings will not affect the intonation, have you checked that with a strobe tuner?

sorry but the amount of difference you suggest devided by two is not enough difference for the human ear to percieve. Intonation is only effected by string lengths, not tension. If it's a big enough bow then the guitar is probably junk, or the truss has snapped.

Transperformance guitars are use by some great players

the design is flawless (and yes I've played it)

Does the Performer affect intonation?

No. Intonation is altered by changes in string length. The Performer changes tunings by adjusting the tension of the strings while keeping the string length constant.
these guitars run up to and over 5k, I think he might know what he's talking about....though it is simple trig...;)

don't have to, I can prove it without it...a strobe might show some change, but like I say not one we can not hear. Many, many guitarists outside of rock and Roll use myriad of tunings...especially on acoustic and classical guitars. Acoustic's dont have intonation settings...surely they dont have guitars built for different tunings...it is in fact one of the biggest mis-conceptions about alternate tunings...and yes I have studied this a lot...:)

I just got sucked in to the Transperformance guitar site - pity that there is not a drool or lust icon. :)

I use 4 or 5 different tunings on acoustic guitar and have never had any serious problems with the the strings or guitar intonation.
