I had some made some great speakers, well at least they were cutting edge 30 + years ago ported and all that. Even bought a few books and stdudied up on it before I did it. Well those were the one I was using for Monitors. Mix sounded great in here but in the car and church it was well let's call it undesirable low end.

I remixed using the KRK Roket5 (room is 8X10) monitors and what a difference. I just recorded a trial CD on the Denon DN-C550R and copied a few on the computer. The master sounded great in the car and so did the ones I copied on the computer.

I heard things with the Rokit5's that you could not hear with the other speakers..great response and great sound...

If you think that good monitors don't make a difference you are wrong. It was worth saving for and waiting for.....

Indeed it makes a big difference. I do all my mixing on my monitors, but I do the final touch ups on my computer speakers as they have a sub which helps the mix transfer better. The more speakers you can play it through, the better.

I usually mix with a pair of tin cans on a string.

Watchout for the tin cans that are coated on the inside, it really kills the volume and tone on that kind of set up.

If you haven't had a chance to hear the KRK Rokit5's, 8's or any of their speakers. You will be suprised at how much bass you will hear. If you haven't heard them yet hit GC and you will be amazed.

I think the woofer would be overpowering for my rooms size with the Rokit5's. Everything is nice and crisp and not muddy anymore.

I didn't really like the KRK's when I went to GC and auditioned monitors. My favorites were the Mackie HR824's.

But they are well out of my price range.
I currently use a pair of Samson Resolv 65a's. They work great for me, but are not powerful in the bass, so I'm gettin a sub soon.

I remember when I got my BX5's, was using headphones until then. Good monitors certainly do make a huge difference

tips for mixes that lack of low end:

This is usually because of the low end resonance in you room,
a pair of bass traps wirll do the trick, certainly if you're
gonna add a sub to your setup.

Bass traps are usually expencive but you can build your own with
some 4x4 and rockwool. Just make sure there is lots of space in the trap since this air is the resonance, in fact.

I could draw you a drawing but I reckon most of you will find a sketch on the internet which is far better anyways...

Another mix tip is to have lots of space behind your monitors,
even if it is nearfield monitors. If you have hard surfaces on your desk, coating them with absorbents is always a god idea.

The back and front wall also is mix killer. Glue your moms used egg cartons up there or buy some absorbents. The cheap ones cost
like half a dollar for 60x120cm...

But most importantly, you've only got one vu meter, by the looks of things. Everyone knows that you need as many of those yellow green red striplight thingies as you can get. You've only got one and it's only got one little red stripe. Sheesh, you wouldn't catch me going round your studio to mix my latest mega-album!
