One of me ex-housemates had the "here come the young men" video. we used to watch it to laugh at curtis' dancing
but yeah, gonna d/l that when i have a few hundred spare hours

I'm half with Voidoid, but I think 'Unknown Pleasures' was the peak, followed by the Warsaw stuff.

UP is stunning, and i do find closer a bit of a tough listendystonia_ek wrote:I'm half with Voidoid, but I think 'Unknown Pleasures' was the peak, followed by the Warsaw stuff.
The warsaw stuff is really interesting, i dont have anything to compare it to - very odd, sparse, and claustrophobic. Sometimes techinically awful, sometimes stunning.
You can really tell martin hannet's influence

I'm with William Bennett on that one.Bunnyboy wrote: i do find closer a bit of a tough listen

If anything, I wouldve thought bennett would be of the opposite opinion - UP is the poppy, rocknroll one whilst closer is the slow dirge one.dystonia_ek wrote:I'm with William Bennett on that one.Bunnyboy wrote: i do find closer a bit of a tough listen

But I still cant get round most people saying that closer is better than UP

Ah....the Hacienda. There's a bit of nostalgia. That was a truly innovative club at the time. I didn't ever see JD, but I remember seeing early New Order there. I saw that early Madonna (with the pot belly) show ... I really don't know why they put her on at all...just goes to show what a decent club it was really - no strict rules about who played.
Oh dear, I feel a bit old....

Yes, but the musical styles are very different.o'malley wrote:Isn't New Order=Joy Division-Ian Curtis?kritikon wrote: I didn't ever see JD, but I remember seeing early New Order there.
JD are very dark and brooding, whereas NO are quite housey/electro-y and vaguely poppy (if still enigmatic)
I remember barny once saying that they started to listen to a lot of house and electro to get over ian's death, as it is, essentially, happy music. They then took that onboard, and created the wonders of blue monday and technique
Both of them are stunning groups

Yeah...in the same way that Wings=Beatles-John Lennon-Ringo Starr-the other one+Linda.Isn't New Order=Joy Division-Ian Curtis?
Or John+Yoko=Beatles-the other 3.

Honestly, I don't know those at all. The only NO song I can even remember is that shitty football thing. I'm not into their pop stuff post Blue Monday at all; it doesn't do it for me.
