Dubstation 2 DubStation1

Thanks guys, glad it was of use. I rarely use Discord for voice sounds, unless I'm after that Max Headroom sound I guess. But it is really excellent for shifting lumps of synthesized sound around.

I'll try to do a similar demo of Dubstation this weekend. It is a lot of fun to work with.

Ok, here's a quick demo I did of Dubstation tonight just to show off how the feedback and delay block sound (careful with the volume, it gets loud in spots). It's really easy to use, there are only 11 parameters. If one were crafty with the automation and sync, a lot of really excellent effects could be had fairly quickly.

I also wanted to note Chris's support at Audio Damage. Any time I've had a problem, it's been resolved faster than most devs I've dealt with. Rivals Jorgen Aase in quick turnaround, and we all know that guy's half machine.

Thanks also to 4Front for the piano module I used, best test VST ever. First default sound I turn to.

Well it is. And thanks seemed appropriate. And I'm still able to make lots of artless shite with a piano sound.

man ...
don't let gary hear about this ...
he hates that piano ...

I don't think it replaces a real piano by any means, it just is the most convenient VSTi. Either it or a generic drumloop are the first things I use to test out new effects.

not to worry ...
in your hands , i'm sure it becomes unrecognizable fairly soon ...

he actually just objects to the tuning ...

I can remember the battle they had over the tuning. I think it's the only time Gary has seemed angry around here. Said something like "Sure, it's fine if all you want is a cheap, out-of-tune Toys-R-Us upright. But useless for those of us with ears. Anyway, I'm off to play my Young's well-tempered Steinway baby grand, sucker."

Or something in that general vicinity.

Haha, this is what I mean when we seem to use similar plugins.... My template set in Live is one midi track with 4front piano, and an audio track with a drum loop I recorded ages ago.

Personally, I think 4front sounds good in a technically distressing sort of way.

Personally I think it sounds dreadful but I always default to my Korg Workstation's stereo piano sound for effects testing so I know where you're coming from :)

hi guys, i need a little help with the midi configuration of dubstation. dubstation's own midi learn doesn't work for me in eXT, so i assigned them on host level.

thing is, assigning CC's is not a problem per se, but it's just incredibly weird that the 'time' knob is actually two knobs. now, someone else in this thread has described the awesome sound you get, when switching between sync and manual mode if they are set to different delay times. i want to preserve that. i.e. i do not want one knob to control both parameters. but having two knobs assigned to one knob confuses the hell out of me, too.

is there any way to make my encoder 'switch' cc, depending on whether i am in sync or manual mode? the knob i am using has a push/button function, too, if that's any help.

if you can't help with this, how do you handle midi assignment with dubstation. this goes out especially to steve and others, who seem to like and use this effect a lot, and who seem to rely on midi controllers.

i hope i didn't sound too confusing... :D

Hi fabi,

Strangely, I don't think I've ever assigned the time knob to a midi controller when it is in sync mode, so this has never come up. I usually only assign the free time knob. Modulating the time in sync mode doesn't produce any pitch change, so I've only ever just used the mouse.

That I can tell, there is no way to assign the same CC number so that it switches based on the sync position. I'm afraid you might be stuck with two knob assignments.

thanks for your thoughts on this. i've been playing around with a bunch of midimungers for the last hour or so, thinking that maybe i can somehow get it to work this way, but i am horribly bad at math, so as of now i've only made little progress.

not a bad thing, though, at least i learn the midimunger inside out, now. ;)

One way that might prove successful is to assign the same knob to both time parameters, but on different MIDI channels. Then set up some kind of rig where the midi knob assigned to the sync mode switch also changes the MIDI channel you send on.
