All I wanna say is eleven eleven.
Zebra2 sounds very interesting to say the least. Gotta check it today at non-baby compatible volumes. What I heard late last nite was really cool.
All the best, FRitz

I can't remember the last time I was so happy to be right. This is brilliant: I've spent hours on it and I haven't even loaded a preset yet.suthnear wrote:I have no doubt that Z2 is going to be anything other than amazing.
Quick question: what's the difference between (and the advantages of) the Geo and Spectro osc types? Spectro sounds as if it might be generated via additive synthesis (the transitions seem a little smoother) while geo is a bit more upfront. Also, not sure why spectro blend is asymmetrical. Still, they both sound excellent and the osc fx are exactly what I've been looking for in a synth: turbulence would be nearly worth the price of the synth on its own.
Excellent, excellent work.

Dunno if this is a bug or a preview restriction but, working from the default preset that loads when you first launch z2, it doesn't seem to be possible to access the sidechain ins of either the mixer or ring mod modules. I can access them if I load any preset first. Also, just loading the ring modulator brings my centrino laptop to its knees.

To explain it in my simple words (sorry, I don't have any otherssuthnear wrote: Quick question: what's the difference between (and the advantages of) the Geo and Spectro osc types?
The "Geo" modes are actually representing a cycle of a waveform, just what you'd see in, say, a wave editor (that's also why the start and end points in GeoMorph mode will allways have the same values to avoid loop clicks).
The "Spectro" modes however are representing a spectral view of your source sound.
I'll try to translate the important sentences from Zebralette's german manual:
Sorry for the bad translation, UrsZebralette manual wrote:SpectroMorph: Looks like GeoMorph, feels the same, something entirely different though - the displayed curve showing an additive spectrum of 1023 overtones in total, spread logarithmically (horiziontally) over 10 octaves. The left 10th of the display being responsible for the root, the second 10th being responsible for the first two harmonics/overtones, etc - up to 511 harmonics. The rightmost point being fixed to minimum.
SpectroBlend: Treatment just like GeoBlend, but displaying a spectrum of 128 harmonics/overtones. This time scaling and leveling is linear, so you got direct control over all the harmonics - this being a bit more difficult to handle than in morph mode.
However, a little tip until a manual shows up:
Draw a nice waveform on "slot" 1, draw an entirely different one on "slot" 16 (or any other slot). Select "slot" 1 and Alt/Mac- or Ctrl/PC click on a non-selected waveform = all waveforms between the selected and alt/ctrl-clicked ones will morph, allowing for smooth transitions. Now modulate away
Oh, and another one: Alt/Mac- or Ctrl/PC-clicked selected waveforms can be dragged to another slot.
And there's the Ctrl/Mac- or Right/PC-click menu on the slots to get some options...

Thanks Sascha. I think I'm just going to think of shape I draw in the spectromorph window as describing a filter curve, with the basic wave that the filter can shape being a bright and brash saw. The way it works reminds me of the formant filter in virsyn's cube...

First one is a bug.suthnear wrote:Dunno if this is a bug or a preview restriction but, working from the default preset that loads when you first launch z2, it doesn't seem to be possible to access the sidechain ins of either the mixer or ring mod modules. Ring Modulator lacks the omnipresent "I go to sleep if nobody send me any audio" algorithm and thus,
Anyway, the Ringmods are the *only* oversampled modules. This also puts them among the most cpu expensive, even without denormalization.
Gotta optimize that stuff a bit more soonishly...

Urs, can you post on here when you send out emails to Z1.5 owners for upgrades? That way we can know if we should have received it already. I want to pay you asap.
Thanks, jeremy

Gimme some time on that...jpinnix wrote:Urs, can you post on here when you send out emails to Z1.5 owners for upgrades? That way we can know if we should have received it already. I want to pay you asap.

Well, I could send an upfront message, but I need some time to sort things, because it involves a boring, tedious manual action to transfer several hundred registrations to my new database scheme...
Or maybe I should write a script for that. We'll see...
Cheers,

This is a very capable synth already with more refinements to come.
Well done Urs.
I am probably going to stop getting presents for my kids to get this instead...just as well I don't have any kids...
Hopefully I will be able to get the cash in the next day or so.
(Don't know if this is a bug of some sort, but for some reason when trying to name a patch I can't put an "r" in it. Using Sonar 4PE with Energy XT latest version. It's probably something daft I'm not doing.
)
Thanks for the hard work.

Hmm, sounds like eXT is intercepting the r for its own purpose. Just don't use rs then until I figure that out...Dunc wrote:(Don't know if this is a bug of some sort, but for some reason when trying to name a patch I can't put an "r" in it. I tried using r's for a patch, running Z2 through eXT as a subhost in both SX3 and Logic 5.5.1 - working fine. Apparently a Sonar problem then?
