Probably because of this simple reason: Many people believe that anything printed on the internet, particularly "press releases" that seem 'possible' have to be real. It's also likely that many sites carry news items that move fast, and use automated processes for submission that don't involve human intervention.

All this being said, there's a reason why Yahoo! and other companies wont reference blogs in the same way as proper news sites etc and don't allow cross pollination of news based on the content of blogs unless information can be verified and cleared [press gags etc]. Imagine what would happen if you believed everything written on KVR was true

This is a classic demonstation on the misuseof of the internet. Whoever pulled this off deserves a pat on the back - though we´ll never know.
