madonna is a great performer and her shows are awesome, if you like song and dance, so who gives a friggin hoot about autotuners. anyway, even placido domingo is known to sing out of tune from time to time and i'll pay up to hear him in a heart beat.
and songs like "take a bow," "ray of light" and "beautiful stranger" kick ass. i'll take those as models of good writing and great production any day of the week.

Those three songs take on even deeper, more meaningfully significant significance when sung as duets by Madonna AND Placido Domingo. Listen for yourself, then try to tell me it's not so.
And I agree with you 100% that when it comes to being a singer, Madonna is a great performer. (A little Gracie Allen-George Burns joke there.)

I agree. She's a performer. I'd hate to see all of you ugly mugs prancin about a huge stage with millions of people watching you.politcat wrote:madonna is a great performer and her shows are awesome, if you like song and dance, so who gives a friggin hoot about autotuners. anyway, even placido domingo is known to sing out of tune from time to time and i'll pay up to hear him in a heart beat.
Most likely, I'd puke instantly.
Agreed. I listen to the Ray of Light album alot and there are some awesome remixes out there. I think there is a pretty defined line between singer and performer.politcat wrote: and songs like "take a bow," "ray of light" and "beautiful stranger" kick ass. i'll take those as models of good writing and great production any day of the week.
To me, she has a voice that you instantly recognize and in the pop world, that's exactly what you want.Meffy wrote: And I agree with you 100% that when it comes to being a singer, Madonna is a great performer.

whoa! i did not mean to imply madonna can't sing. i like her voice and, as you say, it's distinctive.
she isn't the best singer out there, but she's far from the worst.
what i meant is, overall she is still one of the top performers in pop.

Cher used it on one song. Old overrated Madge - "which shit hot producer should I use this week to enhance my undeserved rep even further?" - uses it all over her NEW album. Out. Of. Time.3*s wrote:I always thought it was Cher who was in partener with Antares.

I don't think Madonna makes music for elitist pricks like ourselves!
If the album goes platinum then she has made a good choice. She makes music for people that like that kind of music, usually pop/dance, I wouldn't even think they notice that the same effect is used that much.
I don't get this 'using that is so [insert own insult here]' thing.

If everybody sang like Mariah Carey, music would be very boring. Who says people have to sing "on key" to be good singers anyway? To me, its abaout being creative with it and that makes it unique and enjoyable to listen to. I mean seriously, theres music out there where people are basically just screaming at the top of there lungs in a microphone as loud as they can. Does that mean that they suck? Possibly, but lots of time its unique musical context makes it sound really good in the music. Some people can scream better than others and it sounds amazing (bring on the innuendo).
Zack De La Rocha from Rage is called a "lead singer" but I've never heard him sing a note in his life. Could he sing the star spangled banner? Maybe, but I bet it wouldn't be that great. Is he now worthless because he can't "sing" like "l33t" vocalists?
(NOTE: Now I'm sure people are going to post "I think Rage sucks anyway, so nyah". Well, you are proving the point that people like diversity...you may not like Rage, but lots of other people do. Same with Madonna.)
