Hmmm, I'd pay to hear/see him have a heart attackpolitcat wrote:anyway, even placido domingo is known to sing out of tune from time to time and i'll pay up to hear him in a heart beat.
RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.

not defending or criticizing madonna in any way. just wanted to say that autotune is something that is fairly common in the industry. almost every pop group (including my own) uses it. our singer prob doesn't have to but he does because he's expected to. tons of albums in the world of popular music have used techniques like beat detective and autotune (and this isn't just limited to popular music as well). is this a good or bad thing? i don't care as long as i get paid.

I remember reading an interview with the producer in a music mag a few years ago about that being a misnomer. Most people think it is auto-tune because the effect is close, but in reality it was a planned effect. The interview went on to describe the studio process they used to create that sound. Afterwards other groups wanted to use that effect in songs. I remember NSync or Backstreet Boys or some similar group using it not long after. My thought was “why would anyone want that effect?”Manc Chris wrote:Cher used it on one song. Old overrated Madge - "which shit hot producer should I use this week to enhance my undeserved rep even further?" - uses it all over her NEW album. Out. Of. I know for fact that she sings through Autotune if live. At least she did on a couple of live shows. Yet she doesn't do bad because if Autotune is used in real time you have to sing pretty much in tune anyway.

Right, and from any actual subjective tests not a single person has been able to reproduce the effect that way. However, using Auto-Tune you can achieve the effect in under 3 seconds of effort. One thing people forget is that antares makes hardware auto-tune (atr1a) and that is used all over the place live. So much for 'we'll see how they really are live'

Either way, they DID lie. The Cher effect is autotune. Get over it
