I was doing a quick edit job and downloaded the Waves bundle demo. (Only needed it for a day, I think they give you 2 weeks?). Even that little brush (even after I uninstalled it) with PACE hampered my system, degrading performance. Windows finally crashed on me last week, and I had to reinstall into a new directory. Granted, I was planning on reinstalling anyway, but I wanted to do it on my terms. Thankfully it just killed Windows, and all my data was still intact, I just have to find it all. :)

You can be sure I wouldn't ever buy anything with PACE, and I'll be damned if I try another Waves demo.

It's unfortunate, because I was seriously considering Pro Tools M-Powered. (No, I'm not going with LE, the MBox 2 doesn't do 24/96, and the 002 is too expensive.)

So they can use it like most legitimate Waves users who are computer literate do; keep the version that has had the copyprotection stripped on their computer and keep the bought disc and ilok in the cupboard...

of course i doubt this would ever hold up in a court of law...but i'd hope it never would have to...at least not quite but who knows where the world is going...
I'd think it would hold up to some extent. Granted, they went against the EULA, but if they never installed the "real" version, they never agreed to the EULA anyway. They can prove ownership, and Waves would probably back off unless they wanted a huge mess in court.

Believe me, if I was a Waves owner and they caught me using cracked versions of software I owned to keep PACE off my system (because, think about it, PACE is just as bad as spyware, it's hidden from you but is detrimental to performance) I would fight them hard. I'd go in to court with enough publicity and information to force Waves to stop using PACE, and PACE would never want that to happen. :)

LOL. What a joke.
Are they gonna textually abuse him?
These three idiots gets told here more than often.
Whats you point, really?
I just thought he's making his life difficult by goading one of the more outspoken regulars here. I don't think that's a good idea if you want to enjoy your time on the forum.

Not sure if I can clarify it any more than that.

Tren ... have you read About KvR?

KvR is not about warez discussion.

If this doesn't suit you, you'll need to find another forum to discuss these issues.

Meanwhile, comments on NI RIG and Waves GTR etc are more than welcome

I think things have sidetracked a bit. Hopefully PACE, Microsoft et al can fix their stuff, or dual-core processors will make it a mute point. Back to the software discussion, without being pedantic, I think some lose sight of what these software packages try to do. 1. Emulate Analog Amps, Cabs and Effects, and 2.Provide an arsenal of digital effects (copies of pedals and racks out there). TC G-Force, Boss GT-8, Zoom, Pod etc all provide digital effects and most digital amp/cab modeling. They are completely digital. Only Vox and a few products have actual tubes. The exact same processes for digital effects and modeling can be replicated to run on a Mac or PC. The processors for the computers, while not dedicated DSP chips, still have more DSP juice than any of these boxes by a large margin. If these new software packages do not provide as good or identical effects as the above hardware, then they will next version. They are certainly easier to program than via knobs and LCD screens. Where the real debate should be, is how well does any software or hardware emulate a real analog effect, amp or cab? And which is what is the best bang for the buck. The analog modeling will get better and better, and eventually be impossible to distinguish. Right now, when I go to the POD site and hear the U2 clone sound, it is simply not the same.

Might be wrong but it looks like something you could make using Z-Brush 2. Was it?

is it also made with that Genetica btw?
Yeah, the heart looking meat image is done with Genetica. The veins are actually done with a shader effect that is primarily meant for creating cracked paint type effects. I then used the same shader to create a reversed bump map which makes the cracks look like raised veins. The meat part is just some swirl type effect that I used the proper colors on to make it look like raw meat. :hihi: The text is all Photoshop.

hehe.. it sure looks "tasty" tho. :hihi:

No way. The first instance of it looked so real I had trouble looking at it. Amazing.

Thanks. From what I gather, Genetica is designed to make seamless images for use as image maps in 3D graphics and video games. There was a preset for raw meat but it was kinda lame. It did however give me the idea to experiment a bit more in the same direction. I was actually surprised with the level of realism that I could get out of the program. The presets don't really do it justice.

Anyway, I think that we're probably being rude here by hijacking the thread.
