.. and you could get over that annoying habit you have of entering a thread you have no interest in, just to offer up a smart assed comment.

Then again, you probably won't (get over it).

I'm still intrigued as to why you would sit through a documentary and then start a thread about an 'artist' you clearly dislike in the first place...?

I dont understand the pedancy here but, seeing as you ask ..

Madonna is a 20th century icon. Her 'career' per se, holds an interest for me, and indeed anyone remotely
perplexed by the inner workings of the modern entertainment industry. Her merits as a (cough) musician or (I'll give her this) a performer, alter not, her curiosity value.

So, there you have it. Curiosity value brought me to the documentary. Exasperation at her overuse of a crap, or rather, 'dated' effect, brought me here.

I hope your intrigue has now passed and you can go about your daily business as per normal. Thank you

Well, we all know that forums and threads populated by bedroom musicians like us is the best place for accurate information.

Either way, they DID lie. The Cher effect is autotune. Get over it
It does not really matter if it was autotune or not. Only an idiot would believe they did it to correct picth and then release it thinking that no one would notice the artifact or that the pitch jumps around like someone playing the line on a keyboard. It is an effect. Get over it. (Now I have something in my eye.)

People have been correcting pitch since the 70's. If pitch correction bothers you then toss your music collection, all the way back to Pink Floyd and Christopher Cross. When a producer wants to fix a vocal they will not use software in such a way that it makes the singer sound like a vocoder.
All I need to be happy is one more VSTi.

So quantizing notes to sixteenths is creative?
Exactly - it ain't :P

At least the direction is now the Cher effect... :D

wait, isn't that the whole principle behind this forum?

Uh... everyone agrees it is considered 'an effect', which is made by using auto-tune.

I think everyone knows the producer liked the blatant effect and that it was intentional. Maybe you were just kidding? I couldn't tell.

I like "Sailing" and "Ride Like the Wind", but when I once saw Christopher Cross live I wanted to run away screaming. He was so out of tune it hurt. :-o

I do remember the members of Pink Floyd saying they would rather fix their own voice than hire someone that can sing in tune. That had to be a lot of work back in the time of analog tape and no samplers. But that was also a time when people were releasing complete albumes of music created on a single monophonic synth with multiple takes on analog tape.

I'm just sayin that people aren't sittin here bitchin about all the people that are quantizing their drums or using "groove templates" which are doing the same type of correction that autotune is.

Quantizing is considered ok, but autotuning isn't. Seems like a double standard.
