Dunno about the rest of the world but the UK has this sick obsession with the Christmas Number One. It used to be a blatant, all out cheese fest, with some really good songs, but now it's a race between some ringtone, some Irish boy band or the winner of X Factor
Which reminds me of...

Love Actually :hihi:

I've just discovered this. Bookies have it at 2:1 apparantly....

The JCB Song by Nizlopi

(sounds like a novelty song, but it isn't)

Listen & Buy here:

Watch the superb video here:

For those who don't know, a JCB is a make of excavator here in the UK :)

Now this would be a worthy Xmas No.1 :)

I am surprised that no one has mentioned that BONY M Christmas album...

OK, maybe it isn't exactly true-to-the-definition of 'cheese'... But it has gotten extremely tiresome and irking over the years. :?

That Boney M record is right up there with the McCartney atrocity for sheer, chew-your-leg-off-to-survive holiday trauma.

There's also a horrid version of 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town' with some wailing/squeaking diva (who seems to have been assisted by those guys from 'Deliverance' to hit the high notes) that gets played everywhere around here.

Isn't that 'user friendly, plushy size Mariah Carey'?

:tantrum: I've always hated that song, from its first Phil Spector days -- when it sounded flat, and like it was sung by a choir of people with pneumonia -- and through every subsequent iteration. To me, the annually regurgitated Bruce Springsteen version is one of the worst, with him barking hysterically as though he's heralding the second coming of Christ.

Get a grip! It's only Xmas, a commercial winter solstice holiday invented by retailers, and pandering to adult guilt and childish greed...

Oh...I have a new candidate.  In our local supermarket, they were playing some Xmas tape, with a vile carol by Stevie Nicks. At first, I thought the tape was dragging....nooo...the woman at checkout commented: "it's the singing walrus"

 who's still wondering what he's gonna get, though...

"I'll Be Home For Christmas" was written in prison, by a guy who knew damned well he wouldn't be :-)

What about, 'Every Loser Wins', by Nick Berry. I hate that song and it seems to reappear at xmas in some guise or other. The reason I know so much about it is that my hatred for it has led to obsession which is ironic really.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Sir Cliff. 'Mistletoe & Wine', has to be the all time worse. More cheese than Edam.

I was going to comment on the Springsteen tune to break into this thread - then I realized I'm totally unqualified having come nearly in last place in the November KVR cheesy song contest.
