There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

What will we find there: The first Tarnce thread ever, the famous "my OnePingNever sounds better that your Virus" thread #1, the "my 303 emulation sounds spot on at 7.3kHz sampling rate!" thread, the "where can I get da serialz for TwoPingOnly" thread, ...
Have fun, FRitz

Muddy, mid-ish, no pumping, no clarity.
Sorry, not impressed.

Well, I like the simplicity idea but it's not the sounds I normally need. The marshall comes closest of the three but not really my cup of capuccino. If it would be a Bogner or a Diezel in this format I would gladly buy it without all the FX stuff.kevvvvv wrote:fritzAs everyone says - GR1 is the source.do you know if the guitar combos are the same stuff as in guitar rig?
But in terms of real use, Combos are the best bits of GR, particularly the AC30.
Plus I don't need the fx or the GR pedal, so Combos is fine.
At the end of the day it probably all hinges on what you think an overdriven guitar ought to sound like.
Most sims sound too harsh or gritty to my ears. I like a smoother overdrive - not clean - but not too fuzzy either.
With the Input Gain on the AC30 Combo I can set exactly the right amount of overdrive tone I need.
This is so simple yet so effective.
By contrast, multi-knob complexity is often bollocks masquerading as "enhanced technology".
But if you picked up a real guitar, you'd know in seconds if it was a beaut or not.
Same with sims. It doesn't take all day to find out.
I hear and obey

Fritz ... it's interesting what you say, and you know your amps, and obviously know what you like.
But taking things further in a broader way. Look at Real Guitar from MusicLab, for example.
They're very crafty. They don't tell us what kind of guitar they used for their samples because they know the moment they mention names then people will say "Oh I really wanted a this" or "Can I have a that".
Real Guitar could be a Martin, but it might be an Epi or a Gibson. It's very hard to tell. But it's the best acoustic guitar sample set I know.
So MusicLab have scrapped the concept of the brand, the God that rules the modern day purchaser, and simply said "listen and play" ... and it sounds great.
I really like the fact they don't tell and force us to use ears-without-prejudice.
While I'm sure you know your amps, it seemed an interesting point to make. Others may feel the same.

I really like blind tests. I came to like blind tests the other way round: When I was a young guitar player (boy, I'm only 39) I was told it's either a Marshall, a Fender or a Boogie or it's not any good (never heard of Vox stuff back then). When I played a Marshall JCM800 for the first time I was soooo disappointed. I thought "But how do these guys make this ugly thing to sound good?" Then I played a Boogie for the first time and guess what happened! Right, same thing. Same with guitars, Strats sounded too thin to me for heavy sounds, Les Pauls didn't feel right when playing, blablabla...
This way I dropped out of name dropping. Funny, eh? There I was with several Ibanez guitars and my hotrodded Marshall from which only the case is still the original. I still own this amp but the guitar became a custom strat.
Long story short: If it sounds right it is right. I couldn't care less about the brand and all this funny stuff.
Best wishes, FRitz

Did you ever try heavier strings? Should help to get more meat into the sound. And for the GTR side: Well, eh ... Simulanalog JCM900 can do THAT sound better.dc12 wrote:here's short clip made with GTR (hi-gain)it's only guitars.

Well, I had psyched myself up: "If it's good, just be honest, don't contradict him because he came off a bit wrong." So I was ready to say, "Come on guys, it's quite good... judge the sound not the man."
But it's just not very good-sounding. I don't consider it to be a particularly good example of hi-gain, either. It's more like... normal Marshall-style gain, available since 1968.

I hope the day will come (and I belive it will pretty soon) when players will say:
"Oh that's the famous XYZ plug sound, you can't do it with a real amp you need the famous XYZ plug for that"

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
