Exporting a Traction project to another sequencer.

Hi.
A local band want me to remix a project done in Traction. The "problem" is that I use Cubase SX3

Is there an easy way to get the Traction projects to work in another sequencer? I'm only interested in having the different tracks aligned in time. The effect settings are not an issue for me.

To be precise, I'm wondering if Traction have some sort of export project function where wav files are created?

I guess I could install the demo of Traction and try a little for myself, but any input on this matter would be helpfull.

Tracktion 2 allows exporting all chanels of a project to separate wav files simultaneously. The problem is that Tracktion demo (as expected) doesn't allow export or render. I suppose that's a job (very easy though) for your clients.

yes, but if your clients have used external (non Tracktion native) VST plugins you must have them installed too. I think the most effective solution would be to convince them to a)export each individual track (disabling all EQs, compressors, vol-pan filters etc.) in one folder and give them to you and b) give you a mixdown of their project just to have an idea about their mix

Tracktion will also export as broadcast wav files, which I believe SX3 can import. So the wav files will import at the correct point in the timeline.

If this can't be done then have them export each track starting from the same place. Start each render from where the track that starts first starts.
Then you can import them all starting at the same place and they will all be lined up.

That sounds good, but won't actually work. The exported file will start where the first sound starts. If it's a midi file that doesn't make a sound until bar 40, and you start the export with a cursor at bar 10, the first bar of the exported file will include the first note of bar 40 of the original file.

But Broadcast wav support means that this isn't an issue anyway.

You could add a dummy note to the very begining of midi tracks.

Are you certain that cubase supports Broadcast wave. and does Broadcast wave solve the midi problem you brought up?

Don't remember if I've tried it (and I can't test it right now) but what happens if you check the "render only marked region" option?

In the edit go to the export button, choose "create an audio file", tick the "render each track to a seperate file" button, job done.

Import them into cubase, if it's exported from T2 they'll be broadcast wav stamped. Exporting only works from a licenced copy of Tracktion though, not from the demo.

For $150 US, you can buy Tracktion avoiding all the $TIME$ spent screwing around with the export import alignment etc...
