Who here uses Waves plug ins?

For almost every waves plugin, there is some other (Voxengo, Kjaerus, elemental, etc) that beats it pretty severely, and costs about half as much.

Yeah, what beats the LinEQ???

algorithmix and refined audiometrics, but they are pricey(well not for a pro).

I know about the alghoritmix bundle. It's even pricey than the Waves. I don't have money for the Waves, so there is no need to talk about this haha.

I have Waves Platinum Native. Its a love/hate thing, but I use them all the time, on nearly every track. If not Waves, then you might consider the SonitusFX suite which is very comparable to the Waves Gold bundle I believe.

The voxengo stuff is awesome, I just wish they'd work on the GUIs a bit and do away with dropdowns with values like "T1", "T2", "T3". Seriously, a UI designer could make those plugins look 3 times better than they look now - and I don't mean just eye-candy, I mean usability. (Pristine Space comes to mind as something that could use quite a bit of work in the GUI department) Many times poorly laid out and definitely poorly labeled in some instances, but very well programmed and well-supported.

The Waves plugins are well-supported I suppose as long as you're paid up on your WUP, but that sort of means "not well-supported" for many since not everyone feels like paying the WUP fee every year. It tends to keep Waves in the realm of money-making studio owners. They seem to be able to get away with this because they were one of the (if not the) first really good effects suites (kind of like Pro Tools was there first) and they definitely are well programmed in most cases with simple easy-to-use GUIs by and large. I like em but I realize they're not for everybody.

I just mixed this up last night for a friend (not my song) and it must have at least 25-30 instances of Waves plugins. It came out pretty well I think, but I'm probably biased I think the main delay used was the Sonitus delay as I tend to favor it.

Very nice! Vox and guitar solos sit nicely, drums are pretty phat and the mix is balanced nicely. Mix has nice dynamics as well - good job! I like the fact that it sounds both full *and* empty at the same time, if you know what I mean... (dense but spacious).

They seem to have removed the links to the 1 and 4 band.

I knew that would happen sooner or later. =(
Download the 10-band version if you want to hear the sound, they use the same engine, just each has a different amount of bands.

I use Waves LinMB, L2 and RenEQ, sometimes Convolution Reverb too.

I'm proud to say: no Waves here, nor will ever be. They're surpassed by Voxengo and Kjaerhus, definitely. Well, IMHO, that is . The money you can spend on Waves can be used to buy so much of the better sounding plugins... I tried them and the only thing I liked was RCL. Not much to write home about, though.

Waves are way overpriced, I really think they rely on people thinking they are great because they are so costly they must be good. Voxengo are good but as someone said...the GUI is really bad. I've given up telling him.... he doesn't listen.

I actually prefer Magneto in Nuemdo to Waves Ultra Maximiser L3 I think Waves Ultramaximiser killed off so much modern music by it's misuse.

I've used some in the past and can safely say that their reverbs are sublime. I've tried every freeware reverb plugin I've come across and nothing sounded as polished, to me, as the Waves RVerb and TrueVerb. they're truly wonderful reverbs for almost every application.

Great mix, brother! Love those drums. And the GTR solo! Very nice indeed. Like the artist, reminds me of Robbie Robertson; wonderfully solid, country-based rock. Who's the aritst? You'd think he'd be able to move a few units with that (expletive notwithstanding).

Actually, yes, RVerb is excellent also. Their "R" series is very useful IMO, yep. If there was an option to buy only "R" series I could get tempted... it IS useful and quite light on CPU.

Magneto over L3...huhn. I wouldn't quite put them in the same level. I wouldn't think you'd be able to get away with as much transparent gain reduction as with L3. I do love Magneto, though.

btw: I wouldn't blame Waves' Maximizers for killing modern music; you can blame MTV and myopic record comapnies for that.
