Using Tracktion Again - few questions!

I upgraded to T2 months ago, but was really getting into Live at the time. Started using T2 again because it was easier to track guitars, as I've been gatting back into playing. Anyway I think I'm on the verge of major love affair, but a few things I'm not up speed on!

1) How do I create a mono audio track for guitar. Is that the "enable as stero pair" button?

2) How to I assign the transport controls to my Novation Remote? (including the stop & start again if possible)?

3) My T2 does not have that "movable" audio input arrow. Each track now has it's own "static" arrow. Can I revert back to the old one? I still see the movable one in the latest T2 ads!

Any help would be appreciated. I hope the T forum is the same wonderful, helpful place it used to be!

1. Yup, uncheck the enable as stereo pair and you'll now have two mono inputs which will create mono files.

2. The novation remote sends MMC for those controls. So on the edit tab, from the time code menu button, choose respond to midi machine control from device and then select your noviation midi input. It should now control tracktion.

3. From the options menu, disable "use a per track view for input devices" and the moveable arrows will be back.

I started with Tracktion early on and remember lots of times I'd ask a question and it always be like "nope, can't do that yet, maybe next version", of course competing with like 50 other ideas people wanted put in .

So, it's nice to hear positive answers - I think I'm going to really get back into T . One thing I'm missing - once I set up tracktion to receive MMC control from the REmote - what next? Is MMC your standard Midi CC#'s? If so I'm not sure if I "midi Learn" them (as in Live) or are they hard fixed and I'll have to make a template for the remote? It's usually one or the other although most apps are midi learn these days...

MMC stands for Midi Machine Control. It is a standard set of transport commands that Tracktion responds to. I have a Novation X-Station and the transport keys send MMC by default for pretty much all of the factory templates if I'm not mistaken. So it should simply just work as soon as you tell Tracktion to look for MMC from the Novation midi input.

Okay - got it working.
I loaded the "Generic-General Midi" template into the remote, which had MMC data assigned for transport. I'm guessing remote control is still in the beginning stages , but that's okay. Tracktions come a long way and I think I'll be getting very re-aquainted with it, especially for guitar work.

Only a few things I see I would to be able to do (sory couldn't resist )

1)Remote control of track levels - such a no brainer
2) Remote control of the abort & re-record would be a god-send! Makes so much sense to hit a button on your midi controller for that than to grab the mouse for that!
3) Ability to "save as", this way I can start every project in my generic templete and save it as a completely seperate project.

1) I don't have a controller so I've never tried it, but surely you can map your controller's slider/knob to the level meter?

2) Can't set up your controller to send the 'abort and restart' shortcut key somehow? Surely there's a workaround somewhere!

1)Lunch, your right here. I didn't realize you can now map controllers to any filter. I'll just create a template for this .
so they are always mapped - right on!

2) Since transport responds to MMC, there is probably no easy way to do this without using some third party software. A missed opportunity here I think - that button screams to be mapped to my controller .

3) It would be nice to save an edit your working on as a new project in it's own folder. This way I can start with my "template" edit/project and if my new creation sucks, I can just close without saving. If I create something I'd like to develop, I can save it as a new project in its own folder. T doesn't seem to accomodate this kind of working, but I would imagine many people work this way.

Hey that's neat!

Just too much hassle for me (opening 2 programs each time) for that one thing that should just be built in IMO.
People have done some really amazing things with Live and these types of midi progams for live acts, I'm more of a simple guy.

Agreed. Though unlike my aftertouch-fix, I don't feel this is too much of a bother; I actually use it all the time. Just a simple click on the MIDI translator icon before clicking Tracktion, and you're good to go - the MIDI Translator is soo unobtrusive! (Plus I really, really NEED that remote abort&restart button )

Make a batch file to launch them both at once, and you won't even have to click two icons.
