One question on this new mapper - an excellent product I cannot wait to put to good use. The one thing I would [request] is that: instead of having to copy all the samples I wish to use into the mapper directory - couldn't there be a file listbox or file requester to load in a wav file? I program in visual basic and this is fairly simple and straightforward to do. Just a thought - and the implementation of which would be nassively useful to those of us that have ammassed a truly massive collection of samples - I cannot simply copy 20GB of samples into the directory (and I am not very pre-organized such that I would know which samples to copy to the mapper folder ahead of time). I like to kind of do "what-if's" and see how they sound.
Regardless and not to sound ungrateful, this mapper was a major reason for my purchase decision and I am thankful for it's creation.

You Don't have to copy the samples at the moment.
Just Drop the Mapper files into any Samples folder you want. Don't copy the samples.
The Mapper does not Install so to speak ...So You can have a few copies of it in seperate folders on your drive.
That is presently what we do here. That way i will be always able to open old projects, just incase newer versions break compatibility.
So just drop the 3 files included into any folder you want and start the program from there.
The feature request you mention (Browser) i will add to the wishlist for Greg to consider if / how it could be implemented

I actually find it a lot faster and easier to just copy the samples into the directory. That way you don't have to take the extra step of importing each single sample.Karmacomposer wrote:One question on this new mapper - an excellent product I cannot wait to put to good use. And it's pretty easy to delete samples and add new samples to the project file. Especially in the new version that's in testing.
To do with harddrive space, the new mapper version lets you import WusikSND files, so once you compile a soundset you do not necessarily have to keep the WAV samples in the ManyTone Mapper directory (although it might be a good idea to keep them there just in case).
A good idea, also, is to have separate folders for each soundset project so that samples don't get mixed up. For example, I'll have a main folder called "Sampled Instruments" and then inside that I'll have a folder for each instrument. Inside each of those folders are the samples for the instruments and a copy of ManyTone Mapper. The program is fairly small so I don't have a problem with keeping multiple copies of it.

You also have to remember that this is a Frontend Which uses the original Dos style Mapper that William coded.
The specs on Williams original mapper require that the samples have to be in the same folder ...
So i do not think we could even do it with ManyMapper in its current form.
Greg ... what do you think here?

Having the samples all in the ManyTone Mapper folder does make it more convenient for William's WAV>WusikSND dos command-line converter.manytone wrote:You also have to remember that this is a Frontend Which uses the original Dos style Mapper that William coded.

Another reason that I'd rather have the samples all in the ManyTone Mapper directory is that I am reluctant to have the soundset project files refer to sample files in other places on your harddrive. If you move those samples, rename them, or delete them, that will mess up your soundset project file.
Other sample editing programs save all the samples in the project file, which is one way to solve that problem. However when the samples are saved in the project file, it makes it harder to edit the sample. In ManyTone Mapper you can bring the WAV files up in your sound editor and change them and it will not mess up your sampleset project file.
