I've had my Receptor only a few days, and am very happy with it.However, it did sometihng odd, which I wondered if anyone else had experienced. The unit locked up,and lost communication with both ethernet and GUI app. The front buttons wouldn't respond, and I couldn't initiate an emergency reboot,no matter how many attempts I pressed the power button three times.I couldn't power off, either. In the end ,I had no choice but to turn the unit off from the mains, which didn't seem to cause any harm.
I don't know what might have brought this about: has anyone else experienced this?

I have experienced this same thing about 3 times in the 2 months I've had my receptor. Makes me nervous.strawinsky wrote:I've had my Receptor only a few days, and am very happy with it.However, it did sometihng odd, which I wondered if anyone else had experienced. Actually, I believe holding the power button down for 5-10 seconds did work everytime this happened to me except one (and that time I did have to disconnect the power).
I have also had mine "hang" during booting 3 times, where it would not get past the initialization screen. Once this problem persisted for a few hours, the other times I just had to hold down the power button and the next boot worked.

That can happen. We try to test Receptor very, very thoroughly, and fix all the bugs we find, but since Receptor is using many different plug-ins from other vendors, it is impossible to make it 100% reliable. A complete lock is very rare, but it can happen. Hold down the POWER button for 4 seconds, then restart. Receptor has a journaling file system, which means that the file system will recover to the most recent known good state if you do not shut it down properly. So it is safe to power it down by holding down the POWER button.

Thanks for the tips there. If such a thing should reoccur I'll give that a go.Generally, though, the Receptor feels very "safe": having said that,I don't relish turning computers off from the mains, unless there is absolutely no other alternative.
