I second this. If you could give up some of the EQ & ENV GUI real estate to make these easy to grab and throw, I say yes.Cabinfever wrote:I think the slider "hit area" is too small. I hate playing "mouse games" when I'm trying to work.

I stil like the look of the original knobs in #2. It looks deeper, more like a real object. #1 is my second choice, but in this new third one, the knobs just don't look right; they seem out of place like incorrect replacement parts.

hi liqih,
i know it's all about sound, but let me make a few more comments about the GUI since that is the current focus:
1) i don't like the "upside-down christmas tree" drop down indicators. besides crowding the text, they look unprofessional, IMO. maybe a clean downward black triangle instead, or nothing (like in EVE 1)?
2) the Filter Modulator module uses a different color for the label strip background than the other Modulator modules. and these are different again from the label strip used in the Echo module. and then the label strip used in the FM section is different again, using a 3-D effect. all of these need to be made consistent.
3) i don't like the blue LFO label in the Filter Modulator module. i also don't like it being crowded in between like that. maybe you could put it above and between the knobs and use a raised label strip like you use in the Echo module for the Delay1/Delay2 Time(s)...that looks much more professional, again IMO.
4) i also don't care for look of the LFO mode buttons in the OSC sections. they are too large, wrong color and lack the 3-D shadowing which they had in previous versions.
5) i'm also undecided about the current knobs. i still may like the originals best, so far.
i hope you don't think i'm out of line offering these comments. just trying to help...
sounding nice, btw.

4) wrong color? shadowing was removed on purpose
3) and 2) that's not meant to stay, the skin is beta
1) well when you try to do something "different"
it's suddenly unprofessional, <grin>, a triangle is ok but boring to me, sorry if you don't like the tree
but thanks for the comments!, yes I'm happy to read them all and I care too

It's all good, liqih. All I really care about is to get at programming this baby.liqih wrote:<sigh>Bassballjg wrote:I stil like the look of the original knobs in #2. yes I thought the same, thanks ianianweb123 wrote:I think that the knobs don't look like they belong on the background. It is the same for all the knobs so I wonder if the background needs a little texture?

yeah, red. just doesn't look right to me. but just my opinion. not meant to offend.liqih wrote:4) wrong color? shadowing was removed on purpose
of course, but pointed it out for completeness sake. with so much detail to oversee, it is easy to miss little things; so just to make note of it somewhere...3) and 2) that's not meant to stay, the skin is beta
sorry. nothing wrong with different. i just don't like this particular "different". i should have said "not clean" or something instead of "unprofessional", since that carries baggage i did not intend...my sincere apologies.1) well when you try to do something "different"

cool liqih. i definitely meant my comments to help, not to criticize. i really admire you and your work, so please keep it up.but thanks for the comments!, yes I'm happy to read them all and I care too

I like the second one better. Honestly though, i'm pretty fond of the original GUI...will there be away to build both of them in and switch between the two? Or maybe have two different dll's, each with a different skin?
just curious, not a necessity.
peace!

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that EVE 2 is a new and not a replacement dll.TotcProductions wrote:I like the second one better. I too am fond of the original GUI and that is why I hope there is a legacy skin based on the old GUI. As for the new skin, I really think it is going in the right direction. I love the color and the doepfer/oberheim look. I don't really like the knobs on the beta, or the 2nd skin which uses the original knobs on the new skin. I prefer the first knobs posted on this thread, but perhaps if they are bigger and a little more refined. I think the wood panels should drop, and either replaced, or, just left off! Overall, good work and I think it will develop into another great liqih skin (EVE is one of my favourite skins).

Hmmm, where's the randomize button?
Seriously, a smart randomize function that doesn't message up the MIDI settings and reset the keyboard layers selectors would be very nice. Always wanted it on Eve1.
As far as the GUI, the second one looked great!
But more importantly, I care about how it sounds and I know it will sound great.
Phil.
