Hello all,

Does anyone have any idea why Receptor would fail to connect to my computer via ethernet ? About half the time I need to reboot just about everything in the studio to get the thing to be recognized. The other half it connects with know problem. There seems to be no rhyme of reason to it. Patience is wearing thin.

Thanks

Danny

To get it to recogize right away, I usually start receptor, THEN turn on my computer. If you do it the other way around,it takes a while for the connection to be seen..but not too long in my case.

Do you have a Mac or PC? Are you using a router or a crossover cable? Is your Receptor in Auto(DHCP) mode, Manual, or Crossover? When you say connect, do you mean mounting the hard drive, or using Receptor Remote Control?

I have a kind of large setup. Here is my normal startup procedure. I am not including items not pertaining to my PC DAW.

All hardware instruments that use USB midi drivers.

Receptor

maudio 8*8 midi patcher
maudio 1*1 midi patcher

external drives

DM24 mixer (to inialize internal firewire card)

PC.

I do the same thing everytime. I am just trying to use the Receptor remote control. Maybe I need to just go get a third monitor and another keyboard. Real esate is at a premium though.

Thanks

Danny

I'm interested in your Ethernet connections. Is your Receptor connected to your PC via a crossover cable?

Before you power on Receptor make sure that there is a light at the Ethernet connector. If there is no light, you might need to power the PC first.

After the Receptor boots, it should be in Crossover mode and the IP should be 192.168.254.253. After the PC boots you can go to the Run menu and type "cmd" to open a DOS window. Type the command "ipconfig" You should see that the PC has the IP address 192.168.254.254. If it does not have this address you can type "ipconfig /renew"

Once Receptor has the IP 192.168.254.253 and the PC has the address 192.168.254.254 you should not have a problem connecting. You should not have to go through the steps I described before every time. I am suggesting these steps to try to find out where it fails. If you see a light at the Ethernet connector of your Receptor, turn your Receptor on, then turn your PC on, they should always get the IP addresses I mentioned above quickly and reliably.

When you start Receptor Remote, it will first sit for a while scanning the network. After that you could type the address 192.168.254.253 instead of the name. Once you have a connection you can save the configuration as a file. Next time you double click on the file and Receptor Remote should be up very quickly.

Once you go through these steps and find out where it fails and fix it, you should be able to connect to Receptor quickly and very reliably.
