I've been using Tracktion for about a year. I upgraded to 2.0 a while ago but I hadn't used it much since then.
I notice now that I am getting horrible popping and clicking when recording audio. It's so bad it is completely unusable. I've searched the forums and found some info on this, but it seems related to specific audio cards or peripheral equipment, i.e. the suggestions there do not solve anything for me.
I should note that I did not have such problems with T1. However, in trying to troubleshoot, I ran T1 again and did have the problem (maybe a dll was overwritten?).
I should also mention that I do not have the popping an clicking when recording into some other host (like Audacity for example).
When the popping and clicking is happening, the CPU is barely reading anything at all.
Here is my setup:
Pentium III
500 MB Ram
I'm using the Event EZBus for audio - that is connected through USB (1.1)
I'm using an ASIO driver from them
sample rate in Tracktion is 44.1 kHz
latency 64 samples
One thing that I do notice is that when Tracktion is running, the CPU spikes up and down very quickly in a sawtooth with the peaks ranging between 50% and 70%. The CPU monitor in Tracktion does not show this, I'm seeing this with Task Manager. Maybe I just need more CPU?
Again, this exact same setup worked fine in the past. Any thoughts? I'm at my wit's end.

First thing to try, up the latency and see if the clicks go away. I wouldn't think that a USB 1 interface on a slow P3 would have reliable click free operation at that low latency.

Since my original post, I tried something else.
I recorded using another audio card that I have. I recorded using a Audiophile 2496. Again, using ASIO ... same result.
I did try increasing the latency using the ASIO 'control panel' as well. I could see / hear no difference.

remember to restart device each time you change the latancy. 64 samples will give you drop outs on that system, try 512.

I've had this problem before as well.
It's a combined result of app and system latency/buffer size/drive speed/drive space remaining/disc fragmentation and on a mac - permissions and cache files. CPU speed has almost nothing to do with writing and reading audio.
Tracktion seems to be more sensitive to these things than some other programs. It's a shame that there isn't an easy, one click solution.
Meanwhile, a good system utility may be useful. Many people like Disc Warrior or Norton. Now I tend to avoid fragmentation by partitioning my drive from the start. I also back up frequently and always keep my drive about 20% empty. On the mac, I use ONYX and check every box in the "automation" tab.
It all makes a difference. I've not had pops and clicks in many months.
