Pops and Clicks

Hi, I'm getting pops and clicks on my receptor and cant find a way to get rid of them. I've dealt with this numerous times with pc's and audio cards but not sure what to do here.

- Happens when there are no plug ins instantiated, just straight audio signal. Tried different sources and cables so it's not external.

- Happens when using the line inputs/outputs, guitar input or headphones.

- Input/output levels are fine, no clipping is going on.

- Happens at all buffer settings and clock settings though it gets worse with smaller buffers.

- Doesn't seem as if the CPU is spiking.

- Happens with or without remote GUI but when I have the GUI up it gets really bad when in setup mode.

- Tried turning off networking and disconnecting network cable, didn't help.

- Tried disabling Spdif connection, didn't help.

- Seems to happen pre effects because if I do have an effect going ie. delay, the pops are delayed.

- Seems to happen only when an audible audio signal is being passed through the receptor.

The pops and clicks are sporatic and at 44.1 and 128 buffer happen once or twice a minute. If I have the remote GUI up and in setup mode they are pretty constant.

Any thoughts??

thanks!

If I understand correctly, this happens only if you have an input signal. Does this happen if none of the channels in the mixer is set to receive an input? Does this happen with input from Guitar or S/PDIF?

Hi Dan, Yes this happens only when there is an input signal, either the line inputs or the guitar input. I haven't tried it via spdif. It does not happen when I choose a vsti instrument as a source or if no source is chosen.

If you choose line inputs on one channel and Guitar input on another channels, do the clicks and pops come out of both, or just one? I cannot think of anything else, but a faulty sound card.

Hey Dan, just got a chance to try that out. When I have a line input on one channel and a guitar input on a second channel I get pops and clicks from both channels. I tried panning these left and right and got clicks sometimes on the left and sometimes on the right when passing audio through both simultaneously.

If it's a faulty sound card how do I deal with that?

thanks.

You open a support ticket on plugorama, get an RMA number and mail your Receptor to us. I suggest you open the ticket now, but wait until next week when Bryan Lanser comes back from vacation. He will be able to better assess if it is the sound card and if you need to send it back.

Hi,

Ever since upgrading to OS 1.4.200510028 I have been getting a rash of crackles at 96 kHz -- even when no plugins are running. (Sounds like something frying on the stove)

Sometimes reselecting the sample rate and/or buffer size helps. Sometimes not.

It seems that the new larger buffer sizes are the most prone to this behavior. Lower buffer sizes like 256 seem to suffer less with the crackles, but offer up occasional pops and clicks.

Any suggestions? I hate to give up 96 kHz...
