Are you saying earthworks don't??? I like mine. But, if the room doesn't sound good, those omnis won't help. And then there is the mono compatible issue with spaced pairs. Prefer the imaging using a Jecklin disk.

Regardless, since we're spending Lee's money when he's not here to defend it, he still needs to pony up for those hypercard Schoeps for those ugly rooms. He's gots thousands of dollars tied up in VST plugins. Now he needs to tie up some thousands for a pair of small microphones he uses once a year on a $50 session!

Let us know how the emergency recording went, Lee. And if the post-show surgery was successful.

I've been wanting a pair of the Stapes mics for over a year (same as the Avenson audio mics although, I thought the model was STO) My buddy loved them although he returned them because they had a hair higher noise floor than the earthworks. He primarily records his wife and she plays very soft piano and sings lullby type tunes so it was an issue for him although he said it wouldn't be for most folks.

i have the expensive plugs all sewn up. i spend money where i need it.

i also have all the stage mics that a man could want as i do mainly live multitracked venues.

i however am not comfortable committing to a collection of expensive mics at this point because i may be buying into another studio in town this year that has quite an impressive array of their own.

for now i rent a mic when i need something special.

thanks guys for the reinforcement on the use of the little C430 pair for this gig. I still have my doubts about how great it's gonna be, but ill deal with it later, lol. the whole problem lies in the fact that my mic rental guy is not available right now. if he were here, you would have been talking about something else, like bugs and FR's. hehe!

OH! i almost forgot. i did buy a cheap pair of studio projects C4's. they don't get here until after the holidays though...

what do you think about this mic for location work like this? they're disposable enough that if they ruin, ill be able to find another set no problem. i plan on using these in smokey bars and other type situations. places that i would never take an expensive mic. what do you think about this mic? did i make a good choice?

I would agree with the 430's too - they look like they actually have a decent bass response, and you can EQ the high end out later if need be. I bet, though, that in the right spots they work out fine.

AT's newest LD condenser is supposed to be real good too, and at $99/ea you can not worry about them too much.

Yeah, the C4s are good for smokey, sleezy bars gigs. Make sure to match 'em up with a warm, sleezy pre.
