Looking at this thread I can sort of see how different outlooks and expectations influence how you view amp sims.
Vervil for example is a fantastic rock guitarist that is probably very aware of what excellent guitar tone is and should be.
I on the other hand am certainly not a great guitarist but I do like writing songs where the guitar is a major part (indie/alternative stuff). I want something that sounds good and does a competent job of supporting the song.
I like the AT2 demos because they demonstrate that they are diverse enough and real sounding enough to serve my needs.

I actually had a mini-vacation this weekend. Just popping in now and I can see there are lots of pages of opinions since the demos have been posted. I don't have time to read them all but I skimmed a few. I could predict the variance.
All I can say is that I think they sound great. They give you a taste of some of the variety of tones you can get. Of course, AT2 has its own built-in EQ/Tone settings and one can tweak the sound to have more bass if it is played on its own such as these demo riffs or one can set it to fit into ANY mix just like they would tweak their hardware amp/effects set up.
I think that each person has different tastes so it is impossible to reach everyone the same way with a demo. I agree that having a way to try it out yourself if you want to be absolutely sure or if you are particular about certain things you are looking for is the way to go. I don't know the details of demo versions yet though. I am pretty sure there will be a way to do that. Makes sense.
I do think that most people will just get it based on its feature set and audio demos. I would. You know why? Because it is not that expensive so I am sure I could find a use for it. If I was buying a $2,000 guitar amp I might be more picky. But, for a swiss army knife tool kit of amps and effects like this I'd take a chance. I really would. Not just saying that because I am IK's Beeeoch or anything.
I buy all of the really great software tools for music production (like the UAD, Waves etc.). I don't have to buy IK stuff personally because I get it for free but I WOULD buy it if I didn't. I understand for any of you that is a personal choice that is different for each one of you.
Keep in mind though that the people who come to a forum to discuss this stuff back and forth are naturally ones who like to dig in deep and talk and talk and talk about it. One can lose themselves in a sea of opinions. "It sounds harsh", "Doesn't anyone know what a real amp sounds like?" Sure, everyone has opinions. There isn't a product out there where someone won't tell you that it is crap even when you'd swear it was the best thing you ever bought. That's just the nature of da way things woiks. (Barfly quote there... for those that know the movie... and I am sure some people would say that movie was crap when I happen to think it is one of the best!
).
So, for most people I'd say ask youself "Can I use AT2 in my set up?" If the answer is yes then you have nothing to worry about. When this product is out next month (guessing) I am pretty confident that most people who know what they are doing in the virtual studio environments can get some great use out of the product. Those that want to stop themselves from appreciating because they are stuck on something (like opinions about demos) will not. Of course, there are others that have particular needs, tastes and preferences and don't feel AT2 is right for THEM. That's understandable too. It is up to each person to read this wide variance of opinions and take everything (including my posts too) with a grain of salt and make up your own mind based on your own needs.
Okay. I have to go back to work. Sorry if I miss some questions in this thread. I can't catch them all. If you really want to ask me something specifically I can be found in our SR company forum. Even there I have to be scarce during this time preparing for NAMM and all.
Happy Holidays to everyone btw. Cheers!

midiworks - I don't like the pod xt demos very much and I can't tweak after I've recorded plus I got a very good deal on AT1 so I'll get AT2 for free.

But I don't like the POD, besides I only want a VST solution that will save settings with my song.Midiworks wrote:For that many $$$.....?grandaddy wrote:I like the AT2 demos because they demonstrate that they are diverse enough and real sounding enough to serve my needs.
Get a POD.

I'm going to say this again...POD has tone transfer, if you use sound diver you're in for a real pain in the ass...however they also have the line six editor that has worked flawlessly on my machine. The free settings online are cool, but like with anything of that nature I went and downloaded too many...AndrewSimon wrote:But I don't like the POD, besides I only want a VST solution that will save settings with my song.Midiworks wrote:For that many $$$.....?grandaddy wrote:I like the AT2 demos because they demonstrate that they are diverse enough and real sounding enough to serve my needs.

btw this has an option for all Pod products when you first start it, including I believe tone port...so it's not just for 2.o...

Hink I can verify that you're right on the toneport. For me it comes down to keeping less hardware around. I have an MBOX2 and a toneport. I don't play live anymore so I'm really only buying for the digital setup. The toneport is nice and I've bought all the packs to bring it up to a pod xt. The gearbox software allows me to do some mixing and matching but nothing close to what GR2 or AT2 will do.Hink wrote:btw this has an option for all Pod products when you first start it, including I believe tone port...so it's not just for 2.o...
I plan on using toneport and AT2 together
I bought AT1 as an upgrade so I got it on the cheap and I get AT2 for free. I'm not going to judge it by what someone else has done on some web demos. All that matters to me is what I can do with it in my setup. SO...when I get it and play with it...well, I'll either rave about it or sell it

Can you still get decent feedback with your toneport? I would imagine this depends on your monitoring setup. That's why I want an amp - plus if I ever do actually get off my arse and form a band, I'll need the portability.

I don't have a clue...real amp feedback is not what I'm after...that said, I CAN get some real nice Hendrix with the toneport octave fuzz...sounds kinda like feedbackChibs' Bath Toy wrote:Can you still get decent feedback with your toneport? Having been down the band road many times in my life, I'm only interested these days in a band that trades files...

Well yeah, what I meant is, can you turn up your monitoring quite loud and still have it feedback onto the strings?
I guess you could, but does it sound any good is what I'm wondering.

Hmmm...since I'm monitoring through headphones that wouldn't work for me...but when I get some real monitors, I'll check it out...I'm guessing I could do it that way but I'm also guessing it would NOT sound the same...and I'm not sure I'd want to try itChibs' Bath Toy wrote:Well yeah, what I meant is, can you turn up your monitoring quite loud and still have it feedback onto the strings?
