sorry, what?, <grin>
What I mean is this- at the moment, EVE ONE can read WusikSND files, and I presume EVE 2 will as well. However, the current implementation for EVE ONE reading a wusikSND file is limiting.

It can read a WSND file when it sits in the 'Wusikstation Data' folder onlY. If I move a wusiksnd file to the EVE Data folder, EVE ONE can not read it from there. I find this a bit limiting.

An example: I have the Manytone UBK and the Zvon prepared rhodes in WSND format. However, I use these soundsets exclusively in EVE ONE (the effects are much better, and I don't need layering or wavesequencing for such sounds). So, I would like to be able to keep those soundsets in the EVE Data folder, and for EVE to read them directly from there.

That way, I have only the sounds I want to use for Wusikstation in the Wusikstation Data folder, and the sounds I want to use in EVE in the EVE Data folder, regardless of whether it is actually a DashSND file or a WusikSND file.

Like I said, I like to keep my samples neat and tidy, everything in its right place...

Paul, you make sense. Especially from a perspective of consistancy, use value and disc space aspects. William also needs to impliment reading DASHsnd from the EVE folder. Right now we have each doing the opposite, when both platforms should do both.

Feature request with gui implications: I really liked how fixed pitch came out in SWOOSH Machine, and I use it a lot in Wusikstation, so I think it would be good to have in EVE 2. The question is where to put the control, a simple button, in the gui? The idea I had was to use the transpose knobs for double duty: Double click on them for fixed pitch, and they could change color to indicate status.

yes I would add a pitch switch near the knob,

since I consider you all more as friends than customers I'll speak frankly,

the current state is:

EVE reads DASHsnd from the EVE Data folder

EVE ONE reads DASHsnd from the EVE Data folder
and wusikSND from WS folder

also you can convert DASHsnd to wusikSND
and wusikSND to DASHsnd
If I move a wusiksnd file to the EVE Data folder, EVE ONE can not read it from there. I find this a bit limiting.
buy why you keep it as wusikSND? since WS can't read
from EVE Data!, simply convert that file to DASHsnd

another note is that EVE ONE and SWOOSH code is totally different from EVE 2 code, that's to say that EVE ONE features are not automaticaly ported to EVE 2,
they must be rewritten from scratch,
in fact we'll have the OS X version of EVE 2 but
probably not for EVE ONE, this could be an issue
for my idea to offer EVE ONE as free satellite with EVE 2,

you may say that's messy, you somehow it is,
but you know the story:

I designed EVE 1.0 and William coded 90%
of it's engine following my directions,

then I bought that code and started to trasform it
myself,

then Aldo from A0Audio started to work for Dash
and coded from scratch EVE ONE, the performance player which we designed together,

then SWOOSH used the same core code of EVE ONE,
ultra low CPU usage,

now I'm rewriting EVE 2 starting from EVE 1.8
for its porting to OS X was already started

now we have usability and financial issues about EVE,
what is worth to change or to keep?

with more effects on board maybe EVE 2 users would never never need EVE ONE, no?

maybe next we could have Manyguitar for OS X,
which is basically an enhanced EVE ONE,

my idea is to keep some of the features you mentioned
for EVE 2 first update, and to release EVE 2 like the beta with only more effects to see how it sells

after all I see very few people interested here in EVE 2, <grin>

Luigi, I did forget about the converter. That should solve any problems if what you want to do is use a WusikSND in EVE, etc exclusively and not in Wusikstation. However, if you want to use everything in both, it would be more efficient if both Dash and Wusik synths at some time in the future read each other's folders. In reality, this is a bigger problem for Wusikstation than it is since EVE ONE can read the Wusikstation Data folder for soundsets. So half the problem is solved. But the bottom line is prioritizing what is actually important in EVE 2, so the cross-folder reading thing if it can work, fine, if not, it ios certainly not in the same class of importance as FM and multieffects.

I will email you later about some of the other things you talk about in your post.

I too forgot about the converter (the bulk one, from jtx000), but I had problems at one point using this converter tool with some looped samples, it introduced loop point clicking that wasn't in the original (From various experiences I am now sure this is an error in the WusikSND format). That doesn't matter though for the samples I want, as none of them are looped, and I already converted them to DashSND this morning 8) .

About the usability and financial issues. Liqih, I consider you more of a friend then a developer, so I don't want you to feel 'trapped' by my making suggestions you may not agree with, and I honestly feel you should take your products into whatever direction you want- that is what will keep it fun, and that is why I have so many of your products. I hope EVE sells well from the update, and that more people can enjoy (1) the use of a simple approach to layering to create complex sounds, and (2) the great *quality* of the vintage samples in EVE and associated add-ons.

I personally have found it liberating to come back to EVE after using synths with mod matrices- it is so much more immediate to dial in a sound and focus on the music (IMHO).

I would say that the appeal of Dash synths is their directness and apparent simplicity, which belies great depth of sound-shaping power. Call it design elegance. Paul and I have lobbied for certain things that we respectively thought would be musically useful as an evolution of the instrument. While I have a vision of EVE as transcending being just a vitage keys player, the one thing it must never abandon is its user-friendliness. What you've done, Luigi, is to take the best of what we have asked for, and made it happen wile giving up none of the instrument's elegant simplicity. Thank you and bravo.

The new Manytone mapper exports DASHsnd as well as WusikSND. A very good tool to have. That also goes some way to foster interoperability.

As a fan of simplicity -- in its right place -- I've had my eye on the EVE/DASH family for a while. As it stands, I might not have the spare funds to jump on them just yet, that's all.

So, basically all that holds me back is (i) money issues and (ii) getting to understand how ONE and TWO will relate to each other (having taken long enough to figure out the real differences between 1.8 and ONE  )

And yeah, part of the appeal all along has been the huge library of high-quality vintage sounds and intelligent presets.

just to quickly add my two cents:

EVE ONE has it right. read DASH files from DASH folder and read WUSIK files from WUSIK folder.

no need to duplicate or move files. they stay where they belong. you can convert to the other if desired.

it's Wusikstation that has it wrong (forcing you to duplicate your DASH files in the WUSIK folder), and i have repeatedly asked william to change it. so far, no luck. although he says it's on his list, i worry it'll only be in WS3.

I have the EVE Data folder in the Wusikstation\SoundSets folder. This works well for EVE, EVE One, and WusikStation.

BTW liqih, your concept of EVE is spot on for me. :)

many thanks guys for supporting me, <grin>

I think a lot before making a design change,
so, hoping you like that,

here a cool update for the beta,

- New ECHO fx with wider and deeper range, "Tempo Chorus" and Reflections new control, you'll love it,
it can do a lot of modulated delay effects and also a close spring reverb emulation,

- added also a switch to use the Modulator as insert between the osc and the ECHO,
just like parallel/serial choice

- some changes in the skin too
