I thought it was more like "Tracktion IS A mixer" as opposed to "Tracktion HAS A mixer."

Brilliant! And if they remove the ability to show the GUI's on VST plugins, then you can avoid having any floating windows at all! Why is adding something that could be ignored by people such as yourself such a problem? If you don't want to use a mixer then you wouldn't have to press the button to open the floating window...that seems pretty simple to me.valley wrote:Because you can do all of your mixing without floating windows. You suggest that my reasoning is pointless, then respond with something that is lacking in any sense whatsoever. A mixer would be something that could be implemented so that you would not have to use or see it if you didn't want to...making every car some variation of silver would not offer the option of ignoring it if you didn't want it.That's a pointless piece of reasoning. If you asked the 'amjority' of people what colour car they would want, the majority would tell you "silver." Are you saying evry car should some variation on the theme of silver, simply bacuse that's what the majority wants? If you asked the question of all potential users, then you may find that the majority would want one.
What choice does Tracktion offer? A choice of no mixer or no mixer. Quite why you keep going off on the whole subject of colour is beyond me, as it has nothing to do with an unobtrusive feature that can be ignored.Tracktion offers a choice, and that's what makes it special. All too few other sequencers do offer any kind of choice, you basically have five or so flavours of Cubase. I'm not much for FL's small dark interface, but you wont find me on FL forums saying how FL should look like Sonar.

Actually I like Tracktion's auto hide feature too, as I get tired of multiple VST windows cluttering up my screen.xylyx wrote: Brilliant! And if they remove the ability to show the GUI's on VST plugins, then you can avoid having any floating windows at all!
Did I say it was a problem? I just found your post to be kind of stupid and took a swipe at it.Why is adding something that could be ignored by people such as yourself such a problem?
You claimed there is nothing special about Tracktion's mixerless approach. Since a bunch of people clearly use Tracktion for exactly that reason, anyone who was given the matter even a moment's worth of thought would see that this makes it special. It was unique when Tracktion was released, and it has benefits that some people like. That's what special means, see?
No. You said that something should be done because the majority wants it. You didn't say crap about having an option within the software. So I took your argument on face value, and on face value, it was a dumb statement. Software can do just fine being a niche product. ImageLine have proved this quite comfortably. Ergo, every application does *not* have to look and feel exactly like every other application. They don't all have to offer exactly the same feature sets. Hell, sometimes they can even try to take a deliberately different approach. You suggest that my reasoning is pointless, then respond with something that is lacking in any sense whatsoever.
A different approach to other applications. What choice does Tracktion offer?
'Keep'? I raised the issue once: in the post you just quoted. Keep kind of implies doing something more than once doesn't it?Quite why you keep going off on the whole subject of colour is beyond me

The Tracktion interface *is* the most elaborate flexible user friendly mixer that you've ever seen. All that your missing is the flashing lights on each track, which don't matter at all so long as the master bus doesn't clip.
The mixer is a redundant intellectual concept. Long live vector based clutter free mixing!

I asked what was special about not having a mixer. I asked what was special about not having something that a number of people want.

Yes, some people like not having a mixer window and it aids their workflow. My point is, why are some people so negative about adding a mixer? Why is giving people a choice rather than no choice received so badly by some Tracktion users?
No I didn't. I merely responded to zOap's claim that the majority of users didn't want one. I pointed out that the majority of current T2 users might not want one, but that there could well be a majority of non-users that might well be put off because they did want and expect a mixer.
No. You said that something should be done because the majority wants it.
Well, as pointed out above, you misread what I said. The whole optional thing should have been obvious, as pretty much all the software that has a mixer available offers the option of not using it...Sonar and Cubase allow you to mix without ever opening the mixer window; Live is one of the few that comes to mind where the mixer is not optional. You didn't say crap about having an option within the software. So I took your argument on face value, and on face value, it was a dumb statement.
I don't believe anyone is asking for Tracktion to change it's overall workflow to mimic that of other applications.Software can do just fine being a niche product. ImageLine have proved this quite comfortably. Ergo, every application does *not* have to look and feel exactly like every other application. They don't all have to offer exactly the same feature sets. Hell, sometimes they can even try to take a deliberately different approach.
There are a number of things I don't like about FLStudio, but these are to do with the workflow of the software itself and changing them would result in a change of the feel of the application for it's current users; expecting ImageLine to change this would be ridiculous. Asking for a mixer (or as LunchMoney suggests, Acid looping) is not going to interfere with the fundamental workflow of Tracktion and can, in my view, entice new users without alienating those that already like and enjoy the current way of working that Tracktion offers.
As in, you mentioned the colour of cars and then mentioned the darkness of FL's interface (implying the colour of it), which is where the more than once thing comes in. Anyway, this is not important and is a side point to the stuff mentioned above.'Keep'? I raised the issue once: in the post you just quoted. Keep kind of implies doing something more than once doesn't it?

Instead of a mixer I would like to see automation snapshots like Cakewalk has had for a while. It makes it easy to implement multiple changes very qickly in a mix.
As far as the whole mixer subject, I haven't missed it since moving to Tracktion so it really isn't all that important. As others have said there are other things that need the attention first that would really make the app much better (ACID support PLEASE!!!).
If it was going to get a mixer I would like to see on like Sonar has. One that allows the user to configure it in what ever way best suits the project. This kind of mixer though goes against much of the thinking of how Tracktion is designed to keep things streamlined and simple.
While we are on sensitive subjects I would actually like to be able to run Tracktion in a mode that would allow more floating windows. There are time when mixing and recording that it is nice to be able to have many views of plug-ins open and be able to spread them out over two monitors. It would also be nice to be able to make the track views bigger by putting the output filters on a second monitor. Things like that would be nice for us that are used to dual monitor setups.

I actually don't mind that. It's easy on the eyes at least, though I'd personally do something about the routing section, cos it just looks scruffy. The hardware look is pointless, but at least they didn't try make it dark and cluttered like most 'photo-realistic' interfaces.now wheres that Pic of that realy ugly mixer i posted

There's been a lot of discussion on various BYOI apporaches to mixers and mixing surfaces. It's probably too esoteric for the market Mackie is after, but they could do some cool stuff with a little thought. If it was going to get a mixer I would like to see on like Sonar has. One that allows the user to configure it in what ever way best suits the project.
I'm not getting you. You haven't just missed the 'lock' button on plugin title bars have you? That allows you to keep teh window visible even when other floaters are showing, and you can drag 'em off the main screen and onto another desktop. While we are on sensitive subjects I would actually like to be able to run Tracktion in a mode that would allow more floating windows.
