I seldom heard JCM800s that sounded good, most of the good ones were hotrodded. I didn't hear one JCM900 that sounded really good. Most Marshalls I liked were old ones.

About simulation quality: I think it will be done right one day. So indistiguishable that you can fool everybody with it. We're not THAT far away with the quality of analog synth emulations (in a few cases we're already there) so that it's only a question of some work and some time that we'll get it with tube guitar amps, too.

Best wishes, FRitz

I'm having a problem that it doesn't re-load in nuendo 3 from saved projects. N3 will hang trying to load after showing an error message that it couldn't load xmas tube. Removing the dll and subfolder from the vstplugins directory, then loading the project, removing xmastube from it, re-saving it then launching N3 with the dll and folder back in place will let me re-insert the plugin into the project fine. So far whenever I save a project with xmastube in it, it won't reload in N3. This didn't happen in SX3 as far as I remember.

fritzman: superb! You need to post details about your settings. ;) The chunky rhythm was almost perfect... a bit too much low-end energy for my liking in a mix (though great for messing around in the bedroom!) but the mids sounded perfect!

The actual tune was cool-tastic, too. I imagine you just dashed it off to demo the plug-in (or not??) but sometimes that's when coolness strikes-- you're not intending to revolutionize the world and as a result you come up with something accessible and great-sounding!

Edit:
Thanks, I thought I know why.

Hi Greg,

thanx for the compliments! Settings, look here:

Then I've got some CLAS on the rhythm guitars bus and on the master. I think it's too boomy on the low end, was experimenting with CLAS a bit too much. As you can see from the rhythm guitar eq the lo end doesn't come from the guitars but it is from the synth bass.

Yes, you're right. It just flowed when I wanted to demo the plug. I had a different idea but when I heard that "gentleman rock tone" of the Xmas amp I changed my mind and made this pop rock thingy. So it's a mix between an idea and just fun doing it. Sure, this isn't revolutionizing in any way but it wasn't inteded to do so. But I rarely intend to do anything ground breaking on the guitar anyway. :hihi: Just having fun making cool music.

All the best, FRitz

Hi Midiworks,

first I want to say, that I really enjoyed the little xmas surprise. I definitely will buy the big one.
Ableton Live 5.01 is crashing when it is initializing the plugins. Sonar works rock solid. Actually I prefer Sonar anyay, but I just wanted to let you know.

As other people already mentioned, the original signal is so good, so you can apply a lot of post processing without loosing the tone ( I am using URS A and Voxengo Marquis, still looking for cool ambience reverb). I also got great results using a Wah in front of the D/A. Amazing !!

Best, Tom

btw:

Please remember,

Controls
1. Input
2. Master
3. Boost knob
4. Drive
5. Compressor on/off
6. Response

Please make sure you set up a good input level.
(best use a DI box or a audio card with high-z inputs)

Input, Drive and Response work together !!!

Find a good setting for your guitar and playing.
To turn all full up, is NOT the way to do it.
(Input knob ca. 12 o'clock, Response ca 3-4 o'clock)
Try to make it feel like a real amp, than its right.

The response knob is easy.
Turn off Boost, set Drive to 9 o'clock,
Response at max.
Now play with lots of dynamic.
The more you lower the Response knob,
the more distortion you get.
Dont go too low, but raise instead the Drive.

FRitz your input knob is set very high...

Try to make Response feel like a real amp,
than leave that knob allone. ;)

Cool tune ! :)
