Do we really need guitarists, drummers, bass players,etc??No..we only need a PC/MaC and a lots of VSTs

I play guitar and bass very mediocrely(is that even a word?) but well enough to get my ideas across. Only played them for about 4 years now.
took piano lessons as a kid, and picked it back up about 5 years ago, and again, only play well enough to get my ideas across.(though starting to gain some left hand dexterity finally).
I am buying a drum kit in a few months so I can be a mediocre drummer too
I figure I will never be great at any one instrument, so its better to be average at all of them. My creative output tapered off when I was trying to pick up guitar and bass, and its only just now finding its way back after a 2 year drought. but at least I have 3 instruments to write on as opposed to barely one.

We ALL think of our computer as an instrument, but for the most part you need to be able to play a controller of some form (be it keys, pads, strings or what have you) to get the most out of it- hence the references to traditional instruments.Juan Sanchez wrote:I'm surprised no one thinks of there computer as an instrument

To me it sort of is, and sort of isn't. In a way I think of it as an orchestra, though I don't do orchestral things with it per se. Conversely, when I read Kim Stanley Robinson's The Memory of Whiteness -- a bizarre sci-fi book about a mechanical player-piano like "orchestra" on tour -- I thought "that's not an orchestra, that's an electroacoustic sytnhesizer."
